Fans of Bethesda's Fallout 3 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) will have something new to look forward to next year. No, not more DLC, but an actual new Fallout game from vets who worked on the first two games in the series (no this isn't the MMO).

The game, ostensibly titled Fallout: New Vegas and being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, won't be a sequel to Fallout 3 and will instead be a spin-off that doesn't affect what Bethesda has cooking for the series.

New Vegas will apparently still be in the style of Fallout 3, but whether it uses the same game engine or not has yet to be revealed. Bethesda marketing VP Pete Hines also stressed that New Vegas will be an RPG:

It's definitely an RPG. Same sort of experience as what folks got in Fallout 3. It's not Fallout Tactics, it's not Brotherhood of Steel. It's another Fallout game in that universe.

Fallout: New Vegas is currently slated for a 2010 simultaneous release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

TBH if it really is being handled by the original creators, it should be called Fallout 3, not Fallout: New Vegas.

What Bethesda released should be disregarded period, or re-titled "oblivion: the apocalypse mod".

and disregard their hard work and effort that went into the game. Sure it's a new spin on the series that old fans may not like but it still is a good game no matter which way you look at it.

I don't care if Beth didn't stay absolutely true to your precious Fallout formula, Fallout 3 is FUN TO PLAY. And that is all a game should be.

While you're at hating on Beth, why don't you explain what you would have done with a new Fallout game? Do you think people would have wanted to play another top-down game? Those are obsolete now. I don't see any way Fallout could have gone besides the way Beth did it. The game Beth made seems like a, maybe the only, natural evolution of this franchise

I liked Fallout 3 so I'm happy about it, and yeah, keeping with the same formula would've just been a recipe for low sales, sure the fans would've liked it, but it just wouldn't have appealed to as wide an audience.

I own Fallout 3 but I don't know why. Got up to the point where you're leading the scientists through tunnels after James has gone locked himself in that radiation thing to die or something and I haven't found the game even the tiniest bit fun or interesting so far. It's probably the single most boring game I've played in this generation. I only got as far as I did because I wanted more trophies sadly enough.

I have Oblivion as well which I can't stand either but that's my girlfriends game really so I have to keep that.

Whatever they do OMG do not call another obvious SHOOTER game an RPG. It only helps clarify that american devs can only make FPS/Action games and will NEVER make a good RPG. I'll say it again American RPGs are FAIL! Bunch of doo doo! Flame me all you want, rate me down. But name me one good american RPG that doesn't look bland and generic. And 1 that can match or exceed the quality of Valkyrie Profile 1 & 2. Tell me one and I'll tell you how it sucks.

I would say the elder scrolls series and anything made by bioware would qualify as a good rpg. Just because you don't like the style doesn't mean it sucks, you douchebag

You still didn't really explain why F3 should not be considered a Fallout game. I agree that the quests could've been a little more engaging and maybe had more cinematic elements, but every time I get on Fallout I don't want to stop playing.

You can go download the tech demo of the original Fallout 3 before Beth took over, I honestly thought it was pretty bad. Playing a top down game with point and click controls now just feels weird, archaic.

You already said in another article that you "watched videos of Elder Scrolls" and they made you think "ewww". I'm assuming that means you haven't actually played Elder Scrolls? If that's the case then you really have no say in the matter.

Go actually play these Western RPGs you think are garbage, then come back here. I'd really love to hear how you think Knights of the Old Republic and Morrowind are similar in any way.

Master chef... that's from Halo or something right? lol You would play those games considering they were the only RPGs on the original Xbox. And lol I had a girl who tried to get me into that POS MMO called WoW. I played a trial version and it reminded me why I avoid western RPGs; poor graphics, doo doo story, simple and easy gameplay, and very fugly char design/animation. See I come from FFXI where animation is fluid, character design is polished, story is deep, and gameplay is superbly balanced. After two days of WoW I told her "sorry sweetheart you just can't give me beer when I've already tasted wine". She was disappointed, naturally of course, because I'm so awesome. But my point is that american devs all follow the same bland outlines for RPGs, and they look awful. I won't pick up a western RPG until they give themselves a major facelift, and re-evaluate what they consider "deep". Did I mention I'm wicked and I like sleeping with other dude's neglected GF's for fun?

Why would they? I'm just trying to make a point about western RPGs, and you guys keep responding with insults to me. If I say Tao Feng is doo doo, are you going to say I'm a kid/douche bag/idiot?

And it's apparent since all you could come up with is "dur your name is from Halo right dur" and some BS about WoW, which no one was even talking about, and is in no way similar to any Western single player RPG

Now go away. If you haven't played the games your opinion doesn't matter, period.

# I lose?*****bandit 2009-04-22 08:33
You said I lose? lol Since when are we tryin to win somethin here? Somebody give this guy an Xbox achievement or somethin. He seems to think there is prizes to be won on the internet for arguing over the net! I was using WoW as an example of what american devs do to the RPG genre in general; butcher it! Gameplay trailers and tutorials with geeks *shudders* tell me all I need to know about how crap those games are. I look at a trailer of say Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and I can tell you it plays beautifully. Whether those pesky cameras will be fixed is beyond me, but everything looks fantastic, and I've played NG Sigma 1and NG2, so Ï know so. I'm making a point here, try not to get lost okay? Now if you're telling me that there is an american RPG that boasts great vibrant graphics with fluid battle animations, and a better story that doesn't involve some poor use of kings, elves, wizards, and trolls. Then I wanna know what kind of cheap beer your drinking and what kind of weed your smoking.

Your comments make me think you're a geek, what with how many of them you make about JRPGs.

By you lose I mean you fail kid, wasn't to be taken literally. But you would, because you fail
