Nyko Intercooler for PS3 just announced |
Ó
OK, first and foremost, sorry about the picture. Yes, we know it's the 360, but it's the only picture of a Nyko Intercooler we could find for this article. Moving on...
So anyways, yes: Nyko has announced a new Intercooler device to support the cooling down of the PS3. Especially after some investors got worried about the TGS 2006 incident, this is great news. Nyko marketing manager Chris Arbogast says, "The Intercooler for the Xbox 360 is a hit with gamers and critics... We are confident that the Intercooler for the PlayStation 3 will deliver equally impressive results for consumers that demand the most from their console..."
It's going to work much like the one for the 360. Once the device is attached, its fan will increase internal airflow in your unit. As cooling fans go, it will work with the power port and vent system to reduce the chances of overheating.
The Intercooler will be out by the holidays for US $ 19.99 - US $ 29.99. So, while you're busy keeping your toes warm and toasty, it might be a good idea to keep your PS3 away from the fire...

I mean, the "cooler" for the xbox 360 was wortless because the power supply was the big brick outsite and THAT's what overheat!, and anyway the ps3 coolant instead of a fan, so putting a fan outsite is completly stupid...
Hi number 1.... Guess what? You are dum dum head.
360s overhead regardless of the fact that the powerbrick is outside the unit. Haven't you heard about all the people complain their 360s freeze and they get the red ring of death? (it happend to me) The stock fans are fairly weak that exaust the air out the back of the console, so when you slap 3 more fans on it, it sucks out the hot air way better.... Get it?
My experiance is that if your console is overheating, it may be due to a problem that adding additional fans cant fix though. Get it replaced / "repaired", there is no reason why you should have to add fans to keep it running.
Didnt you read about ps3's overheating at TGS? Maybe the coolent isn't enough and they should have put a fan in there...
I've had my console since launch, I keep it in a very well-ventilated area and it isn't even warm to the touch. The air coming out the back is below room temperature. No, I don't have one of these "cooling devices", as the system does not need it. This will just be another useless add-on to take your money, except it will be for the PS3 :/
We'll see if it'll even be needed for the PS3. However, it's never bad to be too carefull and because its pretty cheap, being safe won't be too expensive.
Cooling systems for a console that isn't out yet.... right...
I think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. Consoles ususally don't do well in confined spaces. (e.g. displays at TGS)
My PS2 would overheat when i tried to keep in a drawer, but otherwise had no problems. I think this was the case for the xbox too, they overheated in their display cases.
Or did the (smoe) xbox just overheat period???
My PS3 will be cool enough to not overheat like the 360. This company is just bs-ing to get people to buy some cooler add-on that they don't even need.
