SNKSNK Playmore has apparently decided to stay away from the Playstation 3 because of it's price. A company executive today commented that it may take four years until SNK begins working on it.

"My first impression is that it's expensive. The PlayStation 2 is good enough. It's small and cheap. For us, for manufacturers, we have to invest in a new system, and the PlayStation 3 is a risk," overseas marketing manager Yoshihito Koyama said. "Few consoles mean few software sales. We need to wait three or four years. Maybe 2009-2010 is a good time to release a game for the PS3.""

While SNK will not be developing for the PS3 in the near future, the company reaffirmed it's support for the Nintendo Wii with the announcement of titles like Metal Slug Anthology. Mainly focusing on PS2 software, SNK recently signed a deal with UK publisher Ignition to cover next-generation titles - whether that only covers the Wii is not yet known. SNK may not be a loss for the gamers who only prefer the big budget titles on their PS3 anyway, nonetheless it's important to have third party support on board, however small it may be - Nintendo learned that lesson with the Gamecube.

Nintendo didn't have backwards compatibility to a system with such a large userbase as Sony has with the PS3. SNK's arcade games definetly don't need the power of a PS3 so I guess it makes no difference if it is released on a PS2 and then played on a PS3. In fact it is a quite clever move because you quadruple your userbase (PS2 will obviously "lead" over the PS3 the first 3 years) plus you don't have to pay anything in development costs or experience to program for the PS3.

I think NeoGeo then changed their name to SNK after bankruptcy. Not 100% but if it is them definately see why they wouldnt want to take anymore risks :) ...

Small matter for the ps3 really seeing that yes it is a small co. and they still have plenty of others making games for them, but I do like the fact that they will still be making new games for this gen

You have to understand, theres not much reason to put a 2D fighter (SNK Playmore is mainlyknown as a 2D fighter company) to go to a next gen PS3 when they don't need the resources of the system. As long as they continue to make games for the PS2 is see that as no problem. The playstation helps alot of those that love fighters because of its controller layout and since the PS3 can play PS2 games then things are fine. Playmore will make their money, and the Sony fans can still play their games. No biggie.

I think PS2 is good enough for King of Fighters games anyway.

I don't like there games, but for a dev to say it's too expensive, this is bad... Anyway, after 17 november we'll know if the ps3 is a hit or not... if it's not, we'll see if it become a hit in mid 2k7 with the good games ( MGS4, final fantasy 13 etc etc ), if they don't sell a lot... they're doomed, if not, SNK will say: OH *****, we gotta make some games for the ps3, DAMN , we missed the opportunity to earn a great market share on early ps3 launch :'(

so I don't care, I'll have one anyway, I'm not buying it for this kind of games ( SNK )..

# i like there fightin games just like capcom'sGuest 2006-08-02 09:21
well they aren't missing a damn thing for not makin games for the ps3 launch period or in 2007 since they will be over looked by the bigger titles like mgs4 and etc. so it is a smart choice and it wouldn't take longer than a year to produce a game transition over to the ps3 anyways so i say if the ps3 does very well they have something for it by 2008 earliest.

NeoGeo was the name of the hardware. SNK went bankrupt, and were then bought out by Playmore, and have been ***** ever since. Still can't beat the SNK classics. Metal Slug was probably the best sidescroller series I've ever played, and I love their fighters just as much, if not more, than Capcom.

Who wants their played out 2d fighter anyways? Oh and they'll rethink their decision when their sales are down.

People who look for more than just graphics in a game? Do yourself a favor and play Garou: Mark of the Wolves ror Metal Slug 3. I couldn't call you a [tasteless] gamer if you haven't.
