No PS3 Team Fortress 2 updates (ever?); Left 4 Dead staying on 360, PC (for now?)

In terms of continued support and additional content updates, it looks like Valve won't be able to deliver any companion cubes (so to speak) to the PS3 crowd. While Electronic Arts was the one that published the PS3 Orange Box for Valve, they themselves (Valve) don't have the in-house resources to develop for the PS3.

This leads to a bit of unfortunate news: while the patch update for the Xbox 360 and PC versions for Team Fortress 2 are well under way, the PS3 version will not get it.

In an interview with 1Up, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell said that, though the PS3 Orange Box might have gotten the 1.10 patch from Electronic Arts earlier this year, "[EA isn't] doing ongoing development on The Orange Box for the PS3."

It is this lack of in-house developers for the PS3 platform that hinders Valve from releasing Left 4 Dead on the PS3 as well. The final verdict of a PS3 Left 4 Dead lies on EA's hands. Newell further explains:

For The Orange Box, EA did the PS3 version. They're interested in getting a PS3 version done. We just have to figure out where the resources can come from. We don't have the bandwidth. We're doing the 360 and PC version ourselves.

They might lack manpower and resources now, but Newell also reassures everyone that Valve Corporation is still committed in trying to get an in-house team of PS3 developers... which you may find surprising, considering that it was none other than Gabe Newell himself who was previously quoted in saying that the "PS3 is a waste of everybody's time."

I guess people can have a change of heart after all, eh?

your a fool if you believe that. i own a ps3 (got rid of 360) and i completely understand why they don't want to spend the resources to develop it for the ps3. it's not like pc to xbox where you can relatively easily port it; the ps3 is build completely different.

Valve IS and HAS BEEN one of the best developers out there - and my personal favorite. Alot of games stole their ideas from Valve *cough* Gay-lo *cough* head crabs

This is not a shock at all. I own the Orange Box (PS3) and enjoy it. It is a pretty good series of games for the cost. However, Gabe N. and his comments are why I bought it used. Why should us PS3 owners support this company when they don't support us? I don't really care what they've done on PC as I don't buy games for PC and they sold their game on the PS3. This only makes my belief that buying the game used and giving the profits from my purchase to another company was the right thing to do. Maybe things will be different in the future but for now I will not be supporting Valve.

Are you joking?, Valve has been and still is one of the best Dev's out there. Putting real effort and proper support into all of their games.

If you want to blame somebody for the lack of PS3 love blame EA.

Valve games + PC. Buy one.

Man, this sucks. I remember a Qj article a while back saying that Left 4 Dead might come to the PS3. I really hope they do. Honestly, I cannot discredit Valve for making one of my favorite series ever. The "Half-Life" series are amazing but, that doesn't change the fact that valve is slacking. I mean, really? Valve cannot develop for the PS3 because they don't have the in house resources? Are you serious? So... Valve cannot make a game because they don't want to use the development kit given by SONY (I get it. That one sucked.) and they don't want to make their own when almost every other development team has? I mean, yeah it must be hard work but every one else has done it so if Valve want to make people think they're supporting the PS3 then they better get to it. Oh yeah, this one is at "Lik Shot". Head crabs came from the "Aliens" Movies bub.

Valve has been a long time PC game developers. It is no surprise they are not willing to develop on another platform, considering their limited work-force.

Do you see people complaining that Nintendo is not developing PC games? Same deal, just not the same kind of games.

It is not the same at all. Nintendo is not making there games available on the PC platform and then not supporting them. There is a clear distinction there.

If a company is going to make their games available on a platform then they ought to be ready and willing to support that game on that platform either in house or have patch porting in the original contract with whatever company ports the game over.

That's the thing. The Orage Box also came out on the PS3 which is their product. So some level of support is expected.
