No patch yet for Prototype PS3 installation bug so try this workaround instead

Prototype - Image 1

Scenario: You just got your shiny new copy of Prototype's PS3 version. You pop it into your PS3 and you get a message saying there's not enough free space on your hard drive for the installation even though you know that it damn well does have enough space.

If you've encountered this installation bug, you can try this workaround from Activision:

If your PS3 tells you that you have insufficient hard drive space to install, even if you do, you are going to need to change the available space on your hard drive by 700 MB. This can be done in a number of ways including the following:

  • Installing or uninstalling another PS3 game that allows hard drive installation.
  • Downloading game demos.
  • Removing downloadable content.
  • Adding / removing MP3's or movies from the hard drive.
  • Etc.

Once you have made the necessary change to your Hard Drive space insert the Prototype disc back into your PS3 and it should now install.

The goal of this is to change the available space on the hard drive. You may need to try a combination of any of the above suggestions.

It's annoying, certainly, but Activision's already working on a proper fix.

Hmmm

How can they release the game with this bug? Don't they test it before releasing a new game?

its not a consistent issue

They test the game before it goes to press. But the problem doesnt happen on every PS3. Some problems are a matter of chance that they catch them before release. If may effect 1 out of every 1000 consoles.

They obviously test it

and they released it because its a huge conspiracy to increase the amount of movie piracy because 700mb is the exact size as a 1 CD movie in scene standards +O.

Same thing with Ratchet and Clank

I had this same problem with Ratchet and Clank, way back in Oct 2007. After an initial call to Sony, and the 1st-line chump who knew nothing about the issue, I talked with a supervisor who acknowledged a known issue with the firmware at the time and the title. I believe that Sony fixed this with the next firmware release, but eventually I did just delete some videos or something to change disk space by a few hundred mb's. In this situation, I had a drive large than 60gb, that was just within a few hundred mbs of 60gb-free. So, maybe it was slightly different, but it sure sounds familiar to me. Maybe the makers of Prototype missed an update-bulletin somewhere along the way.

Still a problem.

I got my R+C with a new PS3 in Feb this year and still had the issue. So it wasn't fixed by firmware/OS. I fixed it by downloading from my media streamer - press triangle on an item and choose copy.
