Saints Row 2 - Image 1

Here's another case of people crying foul due to the violence and "immorality" found in today's video games. This time, the target is Saints Row 2 (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), but the game being decried is pretty much the only thing that's new. It's all just the same old song and dance really.

The game has been criticized by the New York Police Department (NYPD) as another game that glorifies the criminal lifestyle. The Grand Theft Auto series, a franchise that Saints Row has been compared to from time to time (well, most of the time really), also got similar admonishments from the NYPD.

"These horrible and violent video games desensitize young people to violence while encouraging depravity, immorality while glorifying criminal behavior," NYPD union boss Patrick Lynch told the New York Daily News.

For its part, THQ has insisted that Saints Row 2 is not a gang simulator, but rather "a tongue-in-cheek game".

how people blame video games for the lack of social, cultural and mental condition of 16 year old's that have been raised in a bad society and with parents that don't know how to raise their children :D. Oh but we can't be as perceptive as the NYPD! It's always easier to blame someone else then to not be able to handle the real problem. Good job!

I'm glad to have been able to rip out spines in Mortal Kombat at just at twelve years old and not doing it to people 10 years later, instead having my papers a well paid job and peace around me. I guess I'm just stupid :)

*cough* they are *cough*

Theres loads of films that blatantly glorify gang culture, violence ect. Have a shot at the movie industry and leave us gamers alone

he was doing people a favor. if kids parents wont let them have this game because of this then the kids wont be exposed to crappy poorly made games. give the kids GTA4 and let them develop good taste.

At this games graphics and overall cheap feel. I guess it because let your customize so much of the game. The vids I've seen make it look like crap, but I'm sure it will sell. The real crime is the lack of effort and attention to detail of the game developers.
