New Wipeout and Football Games In The Works

wipeoutBack in February, Sony subtly hinted on a PS3 version for the racing game Wipeout, via job postings made by Wipeout developers. Since then, the buzz had died down and we haven't heard much about the game's development - until we saw another Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) job posting over at the Datascope website. This once again suggests that the next-gen installment of the game is on the way.

While the February ad was for a "programmer for a network user interface", the new job ad is for a Senior/Lead Designer who will "have a key role in realising future iterations of Wipeout on PSP and PS3." It's not really something that would make you jump for joy or anything, but what captured my attention is that the ad has 6 bold capital letters screaming URGENT. We may not know when the project will be finished but we do know that SCEE wants it to be finished as soon as possible.

The website also has various ads for developers who will be working on a "PSP football project" and "a PS3 football title". Does this mean Sony is out to challenge FIFA and Pro Evo? We'll just have to wait and see.

# Football or Soccer...Guest 2006-06-29 19:28
No you can't, and the reason being that the rest of the world outnumber you Americans... so it's gonna be called football.

Perhaps you could enlighten us on why Americans call 'American Footbal' as Football when the ball is not even a ball and the game is played about 90% of the time by running around with it in hand ?

:D .

Fluffy,

1. A ball does not have to be a sphere.

2. The term Football is a broad term.

3. Association Football is not the be all and end all of football.

4. Association Football is not the first type of football

5. Association Football has very few similarities to all other forms of football, and thus, is very different to the general thoguht of what football is.

6. The term Soccer is more widely known to relate to association football then the term football alone. (Id say about 99% of the world think Association football when they hear 'soccer' while probably 50-60% do when they hear football. Thats a big difference)

Other forms of football include:

1. Various forms of Rugby

2. Australian Football/Mung Grook

3. American Football/Gridiron

4. Gaylik

5. International Rules (Australain rules cross Gaylik)

ect, ect.

Soccer, or Association Football, is more recognised, so use that to avoid confusion.

Football is an English game..with an English name. We are not just suddenly going to call it 'soccer' or 'association Football' because you americans couldnt think of a different name..if you get confused..live with it

anyways, i can't wait to play wipeout on the PS3, or even a psp sequal :)

# They will...Guest 2006-07-01 01:11
...include online play and they're not just searching for people who have knowledge in terms of PS3 but also in PSP.

So maybe they're developing in two new WipEouts, one for the PSP, one for the PS3.

We'll see which comes 1st.

Studio Liverpool did a great job with Pure, they got new life to the series. After Fusion was such a dissapointment for most players they did mostly everything right with Pure.

Now give us back a bit more 2097-y feeling and the new game WILL be must-buy.

Waaah I can't wait to hold the next PSP WipEout in my hands. And maybe the PS3 WipEout could be a reason to buy one of these machines.

Greets
