Here's a new twist to an old rumor: huge PlayStation 3 franchise exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 has always been surrounded by talks of going multiplatform but now there seems to be a rumor going around that Microsoft is going at it with a different approach.
The rumor doesn't say whether Microsoft is still pressing for MGS to go multiplatform. However, it does say that Microsoft is developing a game that will rival the franchise that made Solid Snake a video game staple.
According to the digital grapevine, Microsoft is meeting with a "highly talented studio" to make something "better than Snake." It doesn't end there though; the rumor adds that Microsoft executives have already seen the demo of this game and were "thoroughly impressed."
All the game needs, apparently, is deciding on whether it should be told from a first or third person perspective. The game supposedly takes place in the future and its storyline will be centered on major political events from the last few years.
Perhaps the biggest claim in the rumor is that the game offers visuals that
[...] were previously thought to be next to impossible on the Xbox 360 and is supposed to look better than any PS3 game that has been shown or is available on the platform exclusively till date.
Metal Gear loggerheads and fanatics are going to have an insanely twisted time with the game.
Note though, that aside from the testimony of the source of the rumor, nothing else was offered to support the existence of the game. Perhaps it exists, perhaps it doesn't. We'll have to wait for more news to come in.
Then again, we may be waiting for more rumors to come in. Or no news to come in. At any rate, we'll have to wait and take this rumor with a grain of salt.

Even if it exists and it would turn out to suck, Microsoft will manage to hype it up and make it appear to be the biggest thing since sliced bread.

I didn't think QJ would eventually see an update like this, but it does, eh? Now we're all out of news and all we can do is dig up weird rumors and post them to flame up some hot discussions?
is just frustrating and stupid... I just hope that happens to see if it will sell because the 360 fans always said that that franshise sucks and everything... if konami said they will make it then just talk about it.. but not a rumor from almost a year ago
That pretty much fully confirms that there won't be MGS on 360. Who knows, this new game could be technically amazing, but MGS is riding on its rich history and that's not something you can just program in. If it's a new franchise, it won't have that little spark that The MGS's, Mario's, Zelda's, and Ninja Gaiden's of the world have.

Tho this makes me laugh, cuz they're not getting their hands on Kojima's newest masterpiece they claim that than can 1 up him on their first try. Please. Kojima's feces has more talent than anything M$ can hire.
MS will surely be able to generate enough hype around that game to generate that 'spark'...
Firstly, I don't think MS would be so foolhardy as to go out saying "we'll make something better than MGS", when they've been trying to wrangle Mr Kojima for so long.
Secondly, as everyone else said, you can't compete with an already established series. Remember Killzone was meant to be Sony's answer to Halo, and that hasn't panned out as they wanted it to, so it's dumb to suggest MS would expect the same from a completely new franchise.

they're not looking at MGS the way true fans do; an epic story about the greatest soldier who ever lived.

May I remind such gamers that the keyword here is "RUMOUR", and that even if it were true that MS were developing a MGS type game, THEY wouldn't be saying it's "better than snake", just as Sony never said Killzone would be better than Halo.

Well that's your opinion, but not everyone likes Bioshock (however great it may be), and may find a game like Uncharted to be far more enjoyable and more entertaining....to them.
Plus what you say about Sony fanboys applies to all fanboys. I could just as easily find similar comments from 360 fanboys about the PS3 and it's games.

there are so many mixed opinions and I agree with you.. I think there will not be another game that will beat halo in an exclusive game... but that doesn't make halo the better game just because sold more...
For me, that have all systems (yes I have the wii now) and think that halo doesn't deserve that hype, they just knew how to marketing the game thats all because what halo is good is in the multiplayer only and isn't that wow... but, many xbox fanboys like you will said that the game is the *****...
So, in a summary, Microsoft knew how to marketing the game but isn't the best game in xbox...

on topic, if m$ is making a mgs type game it could be just as good or even better then MGS4 just like KZ2 it could be a good FPS nobody knows untill it comes out.

Wow. This is certainly a weird rumour. Microsoft plans to make a game that's better than MGS4. MGS4, the game that hasn't been released yet, the game they never played.
Wonderful how a rumour creates triple the comments and twice the despair as a factual piece of news....Almost as much fun as a game.
QJ should release their own multiplatform game/sim and call it rumour control.
This is obviously a false rumor. The game is going to look better than Killzone 2 and Gran Turismo 5? Right....

Microsoft has never ceased to fully disapoint me. every thing they have made is half baked and garbage. I feel bad for this company. They are doomed to fail. This game will obviously be ANOTHER half baked game which will be over-advertised just to get people to buy it. It will ultimately be a game of about a 3 average by press standards. Metal gear would be good on xbox if the xbox could run it without self destructing. Live is great for mgs multiplayer. PSN will pull in a large community but couldn't hold a torch to what live could do. Overall xbox needs to up the hardware, and playstation needs to up the software. Until then expect great excitement until you realized you just flushed another 60 down th toilet. MGS IS worth it though.

Pray tell, what did Killzone copy, exactly? It had an original setting, story, etc. Besides, Guerrilla were originally developing Killzone for the PC. Sony saw it, liked it and got them into an exclusivity contract.

And EVEN if they did manage to make a new franchise better than MGS. Why would that be a bad thing? Why are sony-fanboys upset about that?
You should all be happy then! It would be a new great game! Good for everyone who loves game for what games are, and not the *****ing brand. What? they gonna try to hype up Splinter Cell? Ya all remember SP was the MGS rival - Oh well, what happened to it? DIED! SO they have to do better than that - MGS already have pretty much all the features that a tactical espionage game should have. What else can they add to the new game? new weapons? I dont think that would help at all if they game is just another copy of MGS. Also trying to add the political plot just like MGS will just defaul to Splinter Cell so M$ try to invent something a bit different - A Halo Tactical Espionage Action anyone? They are running out of ideas for games now they are trying to copy other games - oh well, it's time to go back to basic and revamp pacman...
Even if it is, the game would be totally different from MGS4, or else they are plagiarising...MGS4 is a game on its own and it shouldn't be copied. Also, the visuals in this game would rival that of MGS4, well I do believe it can since Mass Effect looks great. As a console owner of both X360 (just got one two days ago), and a PS3, I think PS3 deserves the game more coz the controller has more potential in it that the 360's. Also, the graphical power of the PS3 IS slightly greater than the 360. I think that pretty much is an undisputed argument among NON-fanboys.
...but Microsoft doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell challenging Solid Snake. That's pretty much what Sam Fisher tried, he did alright, but he can NEVER touch the Snake.
Rumour aside if for the PS3 MGS is the benchmark of a great game then it only stands to reason that this is the level that any competitor must aim to achieve or surpass. Even Sony want to do better than MSG otherwise it becomes lazy and rests on its laurels.
Kudos to any company that tries to better its competition if it succeeds or not is another question all together.

Halo was originally a third person shooter but it was switched to a first person shooter because they thought the controls would be easier. That puts the Halo Tactical Espionage Action idea in the garbage.
