This game is really shaping up. Excellent screens (if they were bigger...).

Personally, when watched the demo at E3 in action, I thought it was going to be another boring first person shooter. However, I realized that the demo was only there to show off the guns and the gameplay mechanics. If Insomniac wanted to wow us, they would have included more then just a wasteland and a couple of guns along the way. And don't tell me that they couldn't because this game is a launch title so it would seem only logical that it is almost done.

Anyway, this is probably going to be the game I get on launch day. Problem is, I can't seem to choose between the launch titles (yes I probably only have enough money for one).

What are your thoughts fellow Qj.net bloggers?

this is a definite must buy for Ps3 launch because not only is it gonna be a sweet game wit a nice storyline its also gona have alot of cool features (Co-Op, and the online play is crazy, 40 ppl at the same time, take that halo!), its also gonna show off the power and graphics of the most powerful next gen system. Another great launch game is Sonic and Madden 07 and if Stranglehold was to come out on launch that would be another great game (damn the delays). Call Of Duty 3 doesnt look so promising, its practically the same shyt over and over in all of the games and the graphics doesnt even look like its all that next-gen, and plus y get more than 1 FPS in launch and everybody knows Resistance > Call Of Duty 3 anyday. just my 2 cents

# This should be your first title, though warhawk and motorstorm should be greatTheProfessor 2006-08-09 09:12
These are some of the titles rumored to be launch titles and some confirmed. I listed them in the order Ibelieve will truly shine and make the PS3 launch the best yet. I'll also put an E* for exclusive titles and T* for time exclusive.

1E*. Resistance Fall Of Men: Uses every PS3 feature there is and blew the minds out of the PSM guys

2E*. WarHawk: Proven developer, Game already looks like it will blow people away. Online play, u have to be kidding if you don't think this will be great.

3E* Motorstorm: Evolution's world Rally games have always been great. Throw in a much bigger team, the Havok engine, and Online multiplayer and you got yourself what could be another AAA title.

4.The Darkness: It wowed the folks at EGM and I think it will definitely wow us.

5. Rainbow Six Vegas: GRAW was great, why should this be any different.

6E*. Singstar: without a doubt one of the best party titles ever

7E*. Eye Of Judgement: Let's hope the PS3 includes the eyetoy this time around. It truly is a killer app.

8E*. Untold Legends Dark Kingdom: If it can do for the PS3 what Champions of Norrah did for the PS2 then it will be an instant hit (same developers). They just need to add a bit more security. Everyone (even novice players) cheated in CON and people tired and left fast. One word: Central server ala diablo.

9E*. Fatal Inertia: Has the possibility to be amazing. Let's hope KOEI knows what they are doing when it comes to racers.

10E*. Ridge Racer 7

11E* Genji 2: Could be good

12T*. Sonic The Hedgehog: Might be great again or might be another mediocre title.

13T*. Full Auto 2: Cool but nothing mind blowing.

14. Alone In The Dark

These three might be great but they are just rehashes I am afraid and I personally bore quickly.

15. Call Of Duty 3

16. Madden NFL 07

17. Tony Hawks Project 8

Again who knows if any of these will make the launch window or that they will be any good. All I know is Resistance and Warhawk will be the 2 AAA titles to beat. Motorstorm is definitely the third title to get. If my top ten make the launch window and they are as good as they are leading us to believe then yes the PS3 will have the best launch lineup in the history of consoles.

# Gears Of War definitely has the edgeTheProfessor 2006-08-09 10:49
It has more marketing behind it, and a team that pretty much eats, sleep and breathes FPSs. Also, GOW(Gears of War ) had one hell of a demo at GDC/E3 and I would be surprise if they disappoint come November. Nonetheless, Resistance will be perhaps Sony's first great FPS. And if the PSM (they got exclusive sessions with the newest version of the game) guys are right, this game can definitely hold it's own against GOW.

It will still lose out on the cool factor though (GOW reeks of cool). Even so I would put money down that resistance will have better gameplay and dare I say it, a more addicting online experience. The reason I'm willing to take this bet? Insomniac!

Awesome weapon strategy + Smooth 40 players online + Great Gameplay = Complete Addiction.

I'd say it looks awesome, if it was an original Xbox game...not a PS3 game. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing really against sony per se, it's just any company...I was dissapointed in 360 games at launch as well.....just pisses me off how these companies say they are so great and they produce crap....and I guess Sony moreso cause it keeps saying it's SOOOO much more powerful than 360, but to what end ?

Also....good luck running 40 people multi-player without a centralised server running on a t1-t3....which you will not be playing on for free...

# This is starting to rival Gears of WarGuest 2006-08-09 12:38
in terms of graphics and art direction, and by the time launch comes around I wouldn't be surprised if it equaled it. The gameplay looks to be a lot faster and more interesting too (due to the vast variety of weapons and number of things going on at once). The Gears of War gameplay videos are pretty limited in that the environment is segmented into very small areas with only around 8 - 10 enemies at any one time. Plus I haven't seen any interactive environmental destruction in Gears yet.

# my thoughtsGuest 2006-08-09 16:26
when it comes to Resistance and Gears of War's "coolness" factor, i don't think the Resistance team was aiming for "cool." i think they wanted to make a kickass and fun FPS. Gears of War, while i personally think will be a fun game also, it seems obvious to me that the developers were focusing on the "cool" factor first, and fun gaming second. everything about that game screams high production values, and they want to offer gamers a visceral, visually aesthetic experience.

as for the PS3 launch, amidst all the ridiculously negative news the console has been bombarded with (ie, the price. *rolls eyes*), i looked at the proposed titles for launch, and the PS3 stands to have the best launch lineup in gaming history (or at least be in the top 5). the PS2 and PSP had horrible launch lineups. the PS1's launch lineup was mediocre. honestly, how many systems have launched with more than 5 games that could potentially be killer apps, or sleeper hits?

in my years as a gamer, i can't think of any. personally, i plan on picking up Resistance, Warhawk, Untold Legends, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance for launch. that's four games. not counting the fact that i want Rainbow Six, Eye of Judgement and The Darkness also. 7 games that i'm dying to get my hands on at launch already justifies the purchase of a new system for me. with the PS2, i just wanted one because i wanted the successor of the Playstation (there was practically *nothing* worth owning on the PS2 during it's first 5 months on the market). once games like Onimusha, Code Veronica, and Zone of the Enders came out, i felt like my purchase was justified.

with the PS3, i want one at launch because the launch games actually look good and worth it, with the prospects for next year looking phenomenal (Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy XIII, MGS4, Heavenly Sword, and who knows what else). i'm not getting one for bragging rights, or to impress people. i'm getting one because i truly want one. that's a first for me, but i guess i am a bit older now.

resistance:FOM, madden 07, heavenly sword, then come next year GTA4 and maybe assassin creed, and this might be a surprise but EA's army of two is up there on my list and am praying that zipper will show the next installment in the socom series, i cant wait for that game to come out on the ps3 talkless of god of war, damn ps3 the 1 and only. these is the only system that when you look forward into its future you just keep getting excited about the games that will come out for the console.

# This is not GOWGuest 2006-08-10 03:07
First off people, GOW is a third person shooter, not an FPS.

Secondly, GoW has a ton of environmental destruction, have you watched any of the videos?

Third, GoW will of course have better graphics and smoother gameplay, they've had more time to develop than resistance.

Fourth, why the hell have we only seen the same like two enemies in every single screenshot of resistance.

Fifth, what the hell is this game doing thats new and innovative? All I see is its a FPS with 40 people multiplayer (z0mG 8 more than 360, PS3 r00lz!!!111).

Finally, Epic > Insomniac by a longshot. Epic and CliffyB's games are their LIVES. When was the last time you saw a crappy epic game (not a port, the original). Even cliffy said his proudest moment so far was showing of Gears at E3, and EVERYONE who played said it was *****ing incredible, not a magazine that's paid to say good thing about the system (*cough* PSM *cough*).

1. yes, we know Gears of War is a 3rd person shooter (sorry, GoW is reserved for God of War. they need to come up with their own Acronym).

2. and how exactly do you know that Resistance isn't going to have "tons of environmental destruction?" (for a hint, refer to number 4 below)

3. Yes, Gears of War has amazing graphics, and so far, that is all people are truly getting riled up about. hype is what's keeping Gears in the limelight, while Resistance is getting spotlight because it's genuinely shaping up to be a promising and kickass title, even though the graphics aren't jaw droppingly amazing. also, have you played Resistance? because i was at E3 this year, and i have, and it's safe for me to say that the gameplay and framerate were very smooth, and as far as FPSes on Sony consoles, it's shaping up to be the best (so far)

4. has it occured to you that maybe Insomniac wants to keep aspects of this game quiet from the gamers? it's already been reported (not than an X Box fanboy would ever read an interview with Insomniac), that there is a lot more to the game than what they've revealed (such as enemy types, weapon types, the "special" abilities the main character is supposed to possess for mysterious reasons). when have companies ever revealed 100% the full details of a title? well, the stupid ones have, and they got copied like nobodies business. gaming is becoming more and more secretive as "me too-itis" is practically killing the gaming industry. in this day of the internet, nothing is secret anymore, so i find it commendable that they've been able to keep as much as they have quiet.

5. who says every single game released has to be innovative? was God of War innovative? hell no, but it was incredibly fun to play. was RE4 innovative? no, it was basically Resident Evil with more context sensitive actions. but it was a great game, nonetheless. the guys at Insomniac, much like the guys over at Epic, aren't trying to be "innovative," (man am i getting sick of *that* buzzword) they're both focusing on making a fun, kickass game, and that's what should matter the most.

as for your final thought. um, right. Epic and Insomniac have never made a supbar game in their careers thus far. they are both kickass game developers, and don't forget that Epic is also developing for the PS3 as well. Insomniac, however, is not developing for the 360. so whereas Microsoft gets one great developer, Sony get's *two*.

quit trolling. have you played Resistance?

i have, and it was fun. that's all that matters. it's going to be a good game in the same way we know The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is going to be good: the company making it has a high pedigree and history of making fun, exciting titles.

the end.
