Resident Evil 5 - Image 1

Jun Takeuchi recently sat down with the lucky folks over at Famitsu to share new details about the next title in the critically-acclaimed zombie shooter series Resident Evil, Resident Evil 5 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. We get you all the juicy tidbits of this interview, as well as a few extra morsels you may find interesting about this next-gen title.

For the most part, Jun Takeuchi was a bit vague with the details regarding the storyline - but what he did confirm was that Chris Redfield, the main character in the game, is a member of BSAA, the agency that sent him to investigate some pretty weird happenings that have been cropping up in the desert area that serves as the game's setting.

Takeuchi also confirmed that the enemies Chris will be facing will be neither zombie or ganado, but a completely different one - one that not only has human form, but the intelligence to boot. This makes us wonder just what exactly we're going to be up against come the game's release - and we certainly can't wait to see just what it is!

Here's another nugget of info Takeuchi was willing to give away - the presence of a certain female character that Resident Evil fans will immediately recognize. She'll be making her debut in the full version of the E3 trailer that'll be available on Xbox Live and PSN later this month - and while her appearance in the actual trailer will be brief, Takeuchi promises that not only will she form a large part of the game's storyline, but also a large part of gameplay.

From characters, Takeuchi moved on to the gameplay system - namely, how Chris goes about shooting and killing zombies. Takeuchi said that it'll be pretty much resemble Resident Evil 4, with Chris appearing at the left side of the screen as he aims and shoots. But he also promised that despite this similarity, there will be big additions that will differentiate the two, as well as one particular addition that he touted to be an evolutionary factor for the series.

Speaking of additions, Takeuchi spoke about how light will factor in to the gameplay as an element to put the fear of being eaten by zombies into players once more. For example, when Chris goes into a building that's boarded up, so there's no actual light source. He'll take a few minutes to get used to the darkness, so there'll be a period of complete blindness before he can see (and aim), and vice-versa.

As for the game's release date, Jun Takeuchi didn't exactly nail it down, but there seemed to be a general agreement that it'll be sometime before 2010. Definitely a long wait, but if Resident Evil 4 came out looking and playing as good as it did, it'd certainly be worth it.

Updates as we get them.

SWEET!

YES! Same control scheme as RE4. RE4 had the best controls out of every RE game out there. I can't wait for this one to release.

holy crap

before 2010???? jeez, is the 360 even suppose to last that long before coming out with a new console??? I'm hoping thats a missprint and we'll be getting the game before the end of 2009, i mean if its the same fighting scheme and control as resident evil 4 then it should not take a wopping 2 more years to finish the game, besides they've been working on this for atleast a year already.

Capcom I don't like you anymore

It seems to me that Capcom has had a long standing dislike for SONY and its platforms. That combined with their new found m$ ass kissery has made me loose all respect for them. Not to mention that the quality of their games have been on a rapid decline for years now. I think the days of games like RE4 and Okami are long gone now. Let's hope all that creativity has just escaped to Seeds. If the "new" play mechanic is first person shooting then I know that the last drops of talent has evaporated from them due to them being irradiated with m$'s life sucking cancer rays. Here is a f*** you to m$ and you Capcom for forgoing your Japanese pride and allying with a despicable US corporation that has actively contributed to the diminishing importance of the Japanese gaming industry ever since the black day it entered this industry where it does not belong.

Fanboyism at it's worse

That's what that comment is. I bet you're one of those tools who signed that pathetic Devil May Cry 4 petition huh?

.....

I am starting to dislike Capcom but not because of devil may cry (I don't like any of them) it is because they are not making good games anymore the last good game that they release was lost planet and it was a so-so game, not bad but not great. What happened to the old Capcom that release really good games?
