Target receives new PS3 SKU to release after GDC - Image 1

While it's not exactly the US$ 99 price cut we heard about earlier today, this is still a pretty sweet deal. Word has come in that Target stores have received a brand new PS3 SKU.

Without the price cut, the SKU will still cost US$ 399. It will come with an 80 GB console bundled with MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man. Ok they're two pretty outdated games, what with their sequels already out, but it's still a sweet deal for people who're new to the PS3, and it's a nice upgrade from the just-Motorstorm bundle.

The SKU will be released on March 29, some time after the Game Developer's Conference. No news on whether this will be specific to Target stores or will be available everywhere.

» So...

So now there's the original 80gb from the motorstorm bundle, the 80gb mgs4 bundle (same system), the 80gb gimped model, and the 80gb motorstorm/resistance bundle, which should not be confused with the (superior) 80gb motorstorm bundle.

That is a total of four SKUs of PS3 system with an 80gb hard drive, two with BC, and two without. Unless, this would be the same model that was previously bundled with motorstorm... which is unlikely. sony doesn't realize how high the demand is for backward compatibility.

Yea, that's more like what I would have expected. How long will it be before people finally accept that sony has absolutely no intentions of lower the price in the near future? If the price is going to drop at any point this year, expect an "October surprise" price drop to cash in on holiday sales a la xbox 360 style.

I bought this one! 2 years ago...

Only it had a PS3 with 4 USB's, CardReaders and PS2 support, and only 60GB...

What the hell is sony thinking releasing a pack with those two games... if anything they should bundle the sequels of those games...

» So?

There's still only 2 80GB units. BC and no BC. Anyone who is explicitly looking for BC units KNOW which ones they want, and are pretty much outta luck by this point. Anyone who buys a PS3 now or since last July, expecting to play PS2 games in the machine is a retard.

Sony DOES realize how high the demand is for BC because they were the ones PAYING FOR IT while it was available. People, like yourself who apparently care so much, didnt see it worth the extra money.. so Sony removed it and sales increased.

No BC + more sales for Sony. No BC + less confusion for consumers.

They're losing money per console sold. Lowering the price would further add to the loss per console sold. It's simple business and logic. I'm shocked people like you do not understand this.

» Again?

So Sony is releasing another version of the PS3.

While Resistance: Fall of Man is kind of outdated compared to other PS3 games, it's still a good game. Good amount of action and the graphics are very good.

I own a 60 GB PS3 which plays PS1/PS2 games along with PS3 games. IMO, Sony should have never dropped support for PS1/PS2 games, I have heard people asking salespeople if the new PS3's play PS2 games.
