New PlayStation 3 model spotted FCC exhibits list |
Ó
The 40GB PS3 as pure "rumor and speculation"? Hmm, indeed. It looks like there are more evidences to the contrary, however. This time around the latest evidence of the new PS3 SKU is a new PS3 model posted in the FCC exhibits list, added only recently. This particular PlayStation 3's model number is CECHG01, and is packed with the following specs: Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and some other specs found in other PS3s.
Here's the thing: the 40GB PS3 rumor points to a stripped-down version of the console - without any USB ports - but this new PS3 in the FCC exhibits list includes ports for USB, HDMI, and Ethernet.
There's a small chance that the new model in the FCC is NOT the cheaper version of Sony's PlayStation 3, so we'll have to wait around a bit for a few more details just to be sure.

Wouldn't it be a little foolish to think that a stripped down version of the PS3 wouldn't include USB ports? How would you charge your controllers without them?
exactly QJ writers must not know a thing about what they write about. Wifi is extremely cheap to put in a system and so are USB ports. The things which make the consoles expensive are the cell processor and the blu-ray drive which the price should have decreased by now. So this can easily be the 40 gb model which could have wifi and USB ports.
1st: it's old news
2nd: like they said above, USB is a must and cost around 2$ MAX for them to put in (around 20$ for us for 6 ports :S)
3rd: Even with a diff. number, it can be the exact same thing, with the dual shock 3, or with a new brand of hard drive (not space, but brand), maybe diff. ways of making them, maybe some hardware change(not important things, maybe more made in asia), etc...
4th: If sony pop a 40gig that is stripped down, a little bit like the 1st 20gig, it's not gonna sell well at all... (I suppose)
5th: I'll surely buy the 80gig anyway, just a bit cheaper (around the holidays)
But they should have added a red light behind the PS button like you see in their ads. That is amazing. And one LED isn't going to eat up your battery. It would be as cool as if MS hadn't cheaped out with the original xbox controllers and put a glowing green xbox orb. Or at the least it would make the little kids that see adverts think that it has it and... well, never does. But could. I'm rambling. Bye.
Regardless this article is still a rumor nonetheless and i will take it as a grain of salt. But Im sure as soon as sony makes there library bigger a price cut will follow.
Not as foolish as the rumors about a version without blu ray. Yeah, I've heard those too. There really isn't much sony can take out of the PS3 to reduce costs they haven't already with the 20gb model.
PS3 would never have a model without usb, they are cheap to include (prob around 50 cents a console) and are needed to pair the controller with the system. Not to mention the PS EYE uses usb.
Anyway, this new model is probably like the PS2+ (The box with the yellow corner with a +) that had a few minor improvements without throwing the previous PS2 owners out into the cold. Then again , it could be the 40 gig or a 160 gig.
some ppl hav gon out to fit their own BLUE color LEDs
