New GTA IV details, scans |

Ó
German video game magazine Games Aktuell landed a pretty nice scoop on a few new details about the eagerly awaited Grand Theft Auto IV (for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3). Since we don't speak German here, we're turning to Gamers-Creed for the translations.First off, let's talk a bit about the girl in the scan to your right. Apparently, her name is Lola. Speculation has her pegged as a prostitute for now, but details about her background have yet to be revealed. She does look pretty fine, though.
The tongue-in-cheek humor of the series is also still very much alive in Grand Theft Auto IV. In a mission where Niko has to kill a lawyer named Goldberg, the lawyer reportedly says, "I don't fear guns. You know, guns don't kill people - Videogames kill people."
Here are a few more details for you guys to ponder:
- There won't be any Ammu Nation shops in the game
- Niko can get a cab to take him to any point on the map. Cabbies will also take Niko to the nearest restaurant if he's hungry, or to the nearest hospital if he's wounded. However, he won't stand a chance of getting a cab if the cops are after him.
- The camera is now positioned at a point lower and further to the left when driving a car. Rockstar reportedly did this to give the game a more realistic feeling. Camera views can still be changed, though.
- During a mission, the map will also show the best route to wherever Niko is supposed to go apart from a symbol.

More content means more time
More time means more money
More disc space does not equal more time or money
They arent going to make a whole other continent accessible just because they have space on a bluray disc that only 3million people can take advantage of. Content doesnt just appear out of thin air, it takes time and lots of money. Just because a movie doesnt take up all 9GBs on a DVD doesnt mean theyre gonna shoot extra scenes and expand on the storyline just to fill the space. And its the exact same thing with games.
Get this through your head, bluray means nothing for games, NOTHING.

Even if it doesn't ever get used completely the fact still remains that it IS available to an ambitious enough studio. The fact is that Perfect Dark Zero for the 360 already uses more than 1 DVD. What makes you think that is all the bigger they will ever make them?
You try not to sound biased but your comment "only 3 million people can take advantage of" makes your true colors shine. BTW, it's almost 4 million now! Your one and only real reason for negating the POSSIBLE benefits of BD for gaming is that your 360 does not have it. Don't tell me, "Well I own an PS3 too!" Because I know that you do and I know what you think of it. Just because you own it does not make your opinion more valid than that of someone else. It just means that it is based off of more than just biased and often incorrect articles on the internet and the opinions of those like MCS, Xman, Shatterdome, and yourself!
When are you gonna learn that just because it is not in the 360 that it is not good for gaming? That is the real question!

And as for uncompressed textures and such, it again shows you have no idea what you talk about. If uncompressed textures look so much better then why does Gears of Wars textures look ten times better than the flat bland textures on its competetor, Resistance? Also, 360 can upscale so compressed CGI and video can be played at 1080p and still look just as good as the uncompressed video on bluray.
I still stand by my comment that bluray means nothing for games. Movies, yes, since that is what it was originally designed for. Sony just shoved it down the throats of gamers by forcing the format onto the people who only bought a PS3 for games. And its sad that people like yourself back sony up for their forceful tactics to gain the upper hand in a format war.

Not so awesome for sound, video, or stills! Not all forms of compression are lossless. Sound files can be compressed with lossy or lossless formats and I would personally prefer that mine do not get compressed with lossy formats, if at all.
My 2 cents!

Say a studio decides in four or five years to release a "Best Of" with a few of their better titles once they have moved to the "Greatest Hits" bin. Can you say one BD? Let's see them try that on a DVD. You all show the same thing in common. It's a lack of imagination and a bitter hatred. Hatred for what? You figure that one out on your own.
You can stand by your comment all that you want to. That is what you bots/trolls do all day anyway. BD is not VITAL to gaming. But to say that it means nothing is ignorance at it's best.
BTW, I commented on compression after your post! When you are talking to someone else make another post, you tool. My post on compression stated the same thing that you did. It can be used effectively! You guys need to wipe the drool of your chins and step out of the prehistoric age!
One more thing before I go. Upscaled video, compressed or not, will NEVER look as good as full 1080p video. EVER! Now go away or keep trying to dispute my post with something other than your ignorant references to Fox News or other bogus nonsense that has nothing to due with countering my post.

You're right on some points, but textures will NEVER be in an uncompressed form this generation, regardless of Blu-ray. This is a misconception amoungst many gamers who do not understand why compression is being used.
Compression is used in games to IMPROVE quality and improve performance. All modern GPUs support a number of compressed formats and have hardware support for decompression ON THE FLY, meaning negligable (if any) performance loss for decompression. And because memory is limited, compression allows MORE textures to be loaded into video ram, and being smaller, can be loaded from disk in less time.
Hence they take up less memory, they load quicker, and they can be processed without effecting performance.
Why do you think that despite the increses in bandwidth and memory, images on websites are almost ALL compressed (JPG, GIF etc). Again, they take up less space and they download quicker, and the quality is not effected unless the compression levels are too high, and that takes me back to gaming.
Compression is vital for giving us quality graphics in gaming, so gamers should stop talking about it as if it's a bad thing. If devs need to save space, they don't compress the textures further, they simply use lower resolution textures 9i.e. smaller) which when compressed, take up less space.
Hence uncompressed data on Blu-ray will mostly benefit streamed audio (video is always compressed).

I would bet that I am in better shape than you are. You opinion of Americans is incorrect and narrow minded. I did not say that I did not want to get up to change games. I said that I don't want to get up to change DISCS for the SAME GAME! Is is that hard to understand?
All three of you combined must have the IQ of a rodent! You are definitely NOT a genius. I already jog every day! I swim, play sports, and eat healthy food! Laziness is not my problem. Neither is obesity! Any other preconceptions that you would like disproved?
If I wanted a 360 don't you think that I would already have one? If you can only resort to name calling and being offensive to Americans I could care less what one more ignorant European (the ones who constantly badmouth America) has to say!
My 2 cents worth!

"Yeah, I love this show. I love hearing peoples opinions, thats what made this country great, people and opinions. And stuff. Most of all guns. Ive had it when people whine about guns killing people. Guns don't kill people death kills people! Ask a doctor, its a medical fact. You cant die from a bullet, you can die from a cardiac arrest or organ failure or a major hemrich a small piece of metal ain't the problem. Besides, I only use my machine gun in the safety of my own home and car."
If you don't understand then you're a prepubescent retard.

Some people have made some good points here and put some some good arguements (albeit off topic in many cases), and I'm willing to bet that quite a few of them are older than you (including myself at 41, yes 41).
So to label EVERYONE here as 12 year old computer nerds is rather stupid. Perhaps you should read 'all that crap' afterall, you may learn something. :|

I mean all that extra space on the dvd wouldn't mean better audio and video, and more of it, i mean dev's would have made halo the with same the level's that would be just as big, and the gfx just as good, lets not forget the audio and visuals would have been designed for 8 cd's, dev's wouldn't be thinking that they have any limitswhatsoeve r when it comes to storage, hmmm, and that they could chuck in x amount of discs... right?(don't know how many GB's halo is)
