New Details For Stranglehold, Fresh From Leipzig |
Ó
At the German Games Convention at Leipzig, some hot new details about the third person shooter from Midway Games, adapted from Chow Yun Fat's movie Hard Boiled called Stranglehold, also known as John Woo's Stranglehold, has been generously given away. The game is set 18 years after the events of Hard Boiled with Inspector Tequila (played by Chow Yun-Fat) fighting two separate triads threatening to pull Hong Kong apart. He fights his way all over Hong Kong after his daughter was kidnapped. Eventually, the trail leads him to Chicago where he fights against Russian mafia members and gangsters. Finally, he makes a swift return to Hong Kong, and he attempts to put an end to the triads once and for all.
Psi-Ops, who last developed the gameplay, coined the term Tequila Time for action sequences wherein players can move at normal speed while your opponents move in slow motion. What's great about this is that you can manually trigger it. This may prove to be useful depending on the specific move you pull off and on the accuracy of your targeting. Another is the Tequila Bomb wherein Tequila spins in a circle and shoots any enemies around him while white doves fly around in the background. While there are only five specific special moves in Stranglehold at this time, Midway Chicago is planning to add more.
The designers are also planning to add more game features like for example if you manage to shoot an opponent in the eye, he will actually clutch his bleeding eye socket before falling down. Cool! But Tequila will have the same response to this concept of critical hit zones too, so you might wanna look out for that.
Next is that there will also be multiplayer matches in the game which allows up to 8 players, in addition to the single player storyline. What's more, Midway Chicago stressed that they're going out of their way to make sure that there will be no difference between the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. Stranglehold is slated to be released first quarter of 2007.
