Grand Theft Auto IV: new details from EGM - Image 1

Update alert on Grand Theft Auto 4 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360). The latest edition of EGM had a feature on the game, and we're given a lot of new info. This is great news as updates on GTA4 seem to come in bite-sized pieces recently.

Here are the updates from EGM as summarized by N.HalesLegacy. We particularly like the part where... well, we like a lot of parts. Check it out for yourselves:
  • Sam Houser - "Its Official, Im American now...I can now vote but for anyone but Hillary Clinton. I love America." (Note: Sam Houser is the founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games)
  • The Sixaxis will be used in GTA4 but in a way thats done Right.
  • A possible MMPOG GTA in the future. May be subscription based.
  • Beat up cars will eventually stall, leaving you to flee on foot.
  • Tired will shred apart when they are shot.
  • Ps3 Version will have warmer colors while the 360 version will have more vibrant colors.
  • Tap Up on the D-pad brings up the Cell phone. Up a second time brings up the key pad.
  • There are several different cell phones you gain through out the game. the basic has contacts, organizer, camera, and multiplayer mode. The MP3 version is obtained later in the game.
  • You can kill anyone and everyone, even your contacts.
  • Theres a conservative talk station called WKTT (We Know the Truth). This is making fun of Rush limbaugh and will have those red stater rants that was recorded from real fans that called in doing that time period R* was taking calls from fans.
  • DJ Lazlow Returns
  • Bloggers play some form in the game.
  • The old GTA cheat codes we come to love seem to have returned.
  • You can drop grenades out of the vehicle while driving. you can also "cook" the grenades.
  • R* is really getting into episodic downloads. may see some for the PS3 version.
A Grand Theft Auto MMO? That's got our ears (well, eyes) ringing. As if 100 hours of game time weren't enough. Anyway, it's great news all around. Now if only they reconsider their stand on not releasing a demo, it'd be even better news.

» the subscriber stuff...

I can really see happening. GTA's really all R* has.

» subscription

mmo would be incredibly amazing but the subscription thing would suck ass.

If I like the comment about the "WArmers colors for the PS3" ... what exactly do they mean and whats the point of this?

» Well...

" If I like the comment about the "WArmers colors for the PS3" ... what exactly do they mean and whats the point of this?"

It means the PS3 version will look better.

*waits to get frowny faces (and possibly lame replies) by all the xbots cause the can't handle the truth*

by Quixand - 2008-03-02 13:29
» i think it would be the same...

both versions will be very good... but personally i would prefer warmer colors than vibrant colors... warmer colors gives off a better effect of realism to the world we live in while vibrant colors will make it look more like what it really is, a video game.

I guess this is big, but I'm getting GTA4 either way it goes. Sometime last year I emerged from my "GTA-phase" and lost all interest in playing since when you finished the missions, all you could do was stunt and kill people, or just drive around. This game will ensure that you can do much, much more, and even when you beat GTA4, you'll still play the hell out of it, more so than than with previous editions of the series.

When I play GTA4, I hope to get the same feeling I got when I first played GTA3.

» Don't BS us...

Check IGN's article for correct details.

It says that PS3 version will have less AA ( Anti Aliasing) issues and that the 360 version will have more vibrant colours.

"Warm colours"means more bright colours like red, yellow and orange like anyone who's studied art can tell you."Vibrant colours" are bright colours/pretty much the same as warm colours so this article is pretty much saying that both versions will be exactly the same which they won't.

PS3 will be slightly more "faded" and the 360 version will have some "steps" on diagonals.

+ "MMPOG" doesn't mean anything at all.... Please check for typos before publishing articles.M I believe you meant "MMORPG"...

@Naroon Kasui if u got a 360 u should get that one they'll have expansion packs u would be interested in.I heard it could range from 10-25hrs.That way the replay value would be really high.

» Actually

I didn't hear about Warmer colors, all i remember hearing is that the PS3 version will have Less jagged edges, perhaps they were referring to that.

And yeah i agree qith Quixand here, the vibrant and colorful thing can be adjusted with the TV colors. It means nothing actually. Besides the DLC for 360, it seems the PS3 is the better version.

by Seoulfood - 2008-03-02 21:44
» hmm

actually I interpreted warmer colors as a cover up to saying washed out, simply because they say 360 version looks vibrant. Hey, I'm just saying that's how I read it. I hope it's not true. But damn if I'm not happy about some episodic content coming to PS3.

by purple_cow - 2008-03-03 02:21
» MMPOG isn't a typo

it means massive multiplayer online game. it's not a popular acronym, but some people use it. there's a big difference between an mmorpg and a generic mmo. if r* is gonna make an mmo, it's not going to be an mmorpg.

by Aces In The Palm - 2008-03-03 05:14
» actually it depends on context

when you hear "i want warm vibrant colours" thats not vibrant twice.

warm colours are your reds and yellows and composites of.

but this is not the context it is meant

its basically saying the colour scheme on xbox360 will be better than PS3

warm against vibrant

faded look against sharp look

i'll buy sony version anyway

my xbox360 only tends to get fed exclusives, cross platform i tend to sway for PS3 everytime

» Who cares...

They will be both enjoyable versions of GTA. Plus, if you enable super white and full range on HDMI settings in PS3 it should make things look better. Whatever, I don't really care, I actually care about AA more since it's something you cannot change with simple TV settings. So, imo, PS3 version would look a tad better.

by HogWild - 2008-03-03 07:05
» Same as all the others

It'll be the same as every other multi-platform game. (well maybe not all of them, but definately most)

The Xbox one will have technically better graphics as in more colours and stuff but the PS3 one will look more realistic.

Take your pick. Either way they both look great, and it'll be a quality game.

by Stealth! - 2008-03-03 14:21
» WTF!?!?!?!?

Why did my post gets any stars, im right, the colorful and vibrant thing is the TV not the game with the system, it can be adjusted with the TV your using.

by Aces In The Palm - 2008-03-03 16:42
» lol

because adjustments made on the TV are inferior to a hard coded pallette

by mr.x256 - 2008-03-05 17:58
» PS3 version

Something that people don't seem to know is that PS3 also supports game addons and updates, so I'd imaging that it will also have an expansion.

I prefer PS3 too.
