Wary that Netflix might run out of supply for the disc that they're distributing to patrons being offered for free for the PS3? VP for Corporate Communications Steve Swasey allays those fears, reassuring that there will be ample supply for every PS3 user who will request for the instant streaming disc.

While distribution details are still being ironed out, what is important at this point is that "We're confident we've produced enough discs," said Swasey. Stores who will be distributing the discs apparently already have them in stock, so really, it's just a matter giving them out to those who ordered them once Netflix gives the stores their green light. "No VIP list or special circumstance list," too, so everyone will definitely be getting it around the same time.

Swasey also disclosed that they do, in fact, plan on releasing an update in due time, to answer the question of why they did not just release an integrated solution in the first place. "We haven't given any reason. The key thing here... it's very easy and no different than playing a video game. We'll have an update in time."

Wait for that update in 2010. But in the meantime, place your reservations for the Netflix PS3 disc now.

@ Shatterdome

It's cheaper solution for those who own a 360 and a PS3 but don't pay for XBL Gold.

@ blkthunda

The disc allows you to view Netflix content via the BD Live functionality.

It's only a temp solution until MS's exclusivity period with Netflix ends next year. Netflix have confirmed that they have an XMB solution ready to roll out once the exclusivity period is finished.

Seems like no pays attention to whats going on. Netflix wants to goto as many devices as possible, so now that the exclusive with microsoft is up the PS3 gets it next, and i hear by the end of the year the WII will have it too. but the disc is for streaming netflix to your PS3 so you can watch their instant queue movies over the internet. Now the disc is only going to be used untill sony and netflix get a software up date in an upcoming firmware for the PS3

As far as the "CrapBox" not needing the disc to run the Netflix instant queue, is because the netflix software was built into a 360 update, same thing sony is doing now. and in order to use netflix on your 360 you have to have a gold membership which is $50 a year and pay the $8.99 for netflix. on the PS3 its free as long as you're a netflix subscriber for 8.99 a month.
