How to steal weapons in Haze - Image 1

The biggest understatement you can ever say this year is Haze being just another FPS. Beyond astounding graphics and Nectar-induced action, Free Radical's latest offering features more than your average American shooter - special skills are available, unique to either Mantel soldiers or Promised Hand rebels.

For those who didn't know, Haze follows the cat and mouse story of soldiers under the effects of drug-like Nectar against rebels who don't want to yield. Players can choose either side, each with their own arsenal.

Those under Mantel Global Industries have access to Nectar, which greatly enhances their physical abilities. There's a catch though, since their perception of reality is distorted. Shooting people don't show blood and dead guys disappear, just like in video games. Still, these skills should give them an edge:
  • Nectar Perception: youÂ’ll be able to spot rebels even in the darkest parts of the environment
  • Nectar Focus: allows you to pull off incredible head-shots from long distances away
  • Nectar Foresight: gives you a heightened sense of things, e.g., nearby grenades emit a warning in the form of a ripple effect before exploding onto you
  • Melee Blast: send rebels flying with an overly-powerful strike

Rebels fighting for the Promised Hand refuse to defy reality by using drugs. With all sanity intact, they can:

  • Weapon Steal: punch a Mantel soldier to stun him, then steal his gun before he knows what hit him
  • Play Dead: because Mantel troops canÂ’t see blood or death, rebels can play dead and perform sneak attacks
  • Scavenge: recalibrate any type of ammo to work with your gun
  • Traps: plant grenades in the ground as a special surprise for your enemies
  • Evade: without a Mantel suit to weigh you down, youÂ’ll be able to roll, duck, and dive to avoid being shot
Nectar, much like illegal drugs in our world, brings negative effects to the user when taken excessively. The rebels can use this to their advantage by cooking these up:
  • Nectar Grenade: rip the Nectar pack off of a dead soldier and strap it onto a grenade. The resulting blast will cause your target to overdose
  • Nectar Knife: smear Nectar from your newly created grenade onto a knife and hit a Mantel soldier with it by either throwing it at him or by performing a melee attack to make him overdose
  •  Nectar Pack Shot: shoot the Nectar Pack on the back of a Mantel trooper to cause it to pump too much Nectar into his bloodstream resulting in an overdose
Haze is slated for release on the PS3 this November. Brush up your skills 'til then, since the war between these two factions seems to be a big one. We are yet to confirm when this timed exclusive will hit the 360 and PC, but we're sure to keep you posted.

i can't wait for this game. Haze and killzone 2(or 3, guerrilla[the people who made killzone] said that killzone liberation[for the psp] was killzone 2, meaning the new killzone is killzone 3, i think) are two of the games i'm getting when i get my ps3, another two i'm looking at are heavenly sword, and of course, lair.

but all in all, haze looks amazing, sounds amazing, and probably will be amazing

» Wow...

Wow...This game looks, and sounds amazing. It doesn't look like a generic shooter at all. I like the advantages and disadvantages to both sides. Seems like the Rebels will be very fun to play as. Playing dead and performing sneak attacks should be awesome. I also like to see blood so I know I've actually shot someone. That was the problem with SOCOM: Combined Assault (PS2), no blood (all SOCOM players know what I'm talking about).

So it looks like on the multiplayer (MY SPECUALATION ONLY!!!!) you will be able to have the nectar dudes verses the none nectar guys in like a Capture the flag type thing, kinda like in RFOM were you have Chimera that can see threw walls and run super fast and stuff, but they cant run for to long with out overheating and they cant crouch.

And the none nectar guys are the humans that can see threw walls, and arent super fast but they can crouch and run unlimited. I know its a ruff translation since i havent played haze but i think thats how it will prob be.
