Bandai NamcoThe PS3 was indeed a gamble, not just for Sony but for the developers as well. Whether you like the console or not, there is no denying that the PS3 is paving the way for the real next generation. However, some of its supporters are now at the edge of their seats, with fingers crossed, praying to their gods for profits.

One such example is Namco Bandai. Not to say that they are regretting the decision, can you blame the company if they desperately need to sell half a million copies for each game? "We have to sell at least 500,000 copies per title worldwide to make a profit on PlayStation 3 games," revealed company president Takeo Takasu. Accordingly, the money they had spent for graphics alone totalled 1 billion Yen (US$ 8.6 million).

Also, Takasu expressed concerns whether Sony was able to deliver the promised 400,000 units or not. Analysts are saying that the company was only able to provide around 150,000 units last week. Rocket science is not a pre-requisite for anyone to conclude that console shortages mean lower software sales.

Namco Bandai actually produced two titles for the PS3 namely Ridge Racer 7 and Mobile Suit Gundam.

» Hmm

I really dont know if you can blame Sony if Mobile Suit Gundam doesnt sell.. that game is pure garbage... If Namco really had to sell 500,000 copies of a game, then why didnt they make games that people would want to play... Ill buy Ridge Racer when were i can get a PS3... but they would have to pay me to play Mobile Suit Gundam

» Development Future.

This is why Nintendo will win this console war. Conservative developers. After Namco finishes getting butt-raped, (and I laugh because they are a garbage company who fudged up Xenosaga) other developers will continue the shift to handhelds because of their astronomically low development costs. They will also shift to outdated (easy to develop) hardware and high console sales...Nintendo Wii. Lack of developers is a thing of the past for Ninty, as much as I hate it...I believe Nintendo will win out, and (this part hurts to think about...) M$ will take second of Sony. I'm not spelling the end for Sony or anything...In truth, if the blu-ray format wins out and the console fails... (which can't really happen simultaneously) then Sony has potentially made billions of dollars on movie licensing...

» It doesn't matter

Sony's going to deliver 1 million units by the end of this fiscal year. So by then, Namco should be able to sell the amounts it needs. You can't just expect to sell 500,000 units overnight. Not gonna happen.

A single Ace Combat game would fix this for them. I know that Ace Combat is one of my reasons for sticking with sony, and it seems to do very well in the charts.

Squadron Leader stayed in the top 10 for almost 6 months after launch.

Developers have to take these risks with every launch console. There's not enough units out there, but if the game is good enough then most people will buy them even after launch "when" they can get a hold on a PS3.

I'm a Gundam fan myself, but I heard bad things about that game, as great as it "looks". Ridge Racer seems good though, I'll probably get it.

» Sony fans buy the console even without any games...

so why dont they buy the games without a console ffs?

by senjutsu - 2006-11-30 06:22
» errr, gamespot gave 4/10 for the graphics :S

maybe they should hire new staff lol

because 8 million for a 4/10 in graphics while other PS3 games already make profits with surely less money for the graphics, but for way better graphics... :S

Note this, note it well.

» Resistance

Is a cookie cutter console FPS. Throw in a new twist (WWII+Aliens) and presto, money.

» You bought a PS3

without a game you wanted to play?

» cookie cutter

Have you played this game? If your calling it cookie cutter I doubt you have played through it much because it is a very good FPS that does have a unique feel to it.

There is a good story to the game it's not like they just mixed WWII and Aliens like you say.

The online play has amazing balance, speed, and fun to it.

All in all for you to call this game anything ordinary is wrong.

» yes CSFFlame

unlike resistence, halo has a unique story about a masked soldier in space who must defend earth from an alien invasion! or Gears of War with its scarily similar story of Half-Life and a big, tough talking marine who kicks ass then takes names later. *Phew* good thing i got your back.

» wtf?

My last reply got posted under the wrong poster...*****.

Anyways, Namco Bandai, nay, bandai (i don't want to ***** on Namco's good name) went in full knowing that Gundam plays like ass, and they want people to buy it? So like, is it going to be Bandai's fault for having Tekken go onto another console? Infact, I hope they make Gundam for Wii's only, that way nobody buys it outside of japan and realize it's a stale lisence.
