amazon log - Image 1Those who want to get a good deal when buying Sony's PlayStation should check this out: there's a way to get a 60GB PS3 unit with eight Blu-ray movies thrown in all for a good price of US$ 475 from Amazon, and the thrifty guys over at Cheap Ass Gamer show us how its done.

First, you'll need to add a 60GB PS3 into your Amazon shopping cart, then choose three Blu-ray movies from the list in the Read link below and add it to your cart. Once you checkout with your items, you'll see a hefty discount applied on your purchases, and you'll receive a rebate form for five more Blu-ray movies.

"What's wrong with it?"

Well, for starters, here's what the article above says: "First, you'll need to add a 60GB PS3 into your Amazon shopping cart, then choose three Blu-ray movies from the list in the Read link below and add it to your cart."

Well, when the "Read" link above is clicked, the webpage that opens in Amazon.com is the following: "Get up to Eight HD DVDs with the Purchase of a Toshiba HD DVD Player". Try it out and see.

» Bah

Looks like QJ is getting a kickback from Toshiba as well!

» that's funny

What? Nobody's blaming this on Microsoft or Toshiba?

Who says I never did anything good for you? I don't see anything about it being $475 though.

» Bad news for the PS3 if it were true, thats like saying buy an Elite and get 8 free games that would be desperation

Why would I want to buy a 60 gb PS3 when 80 gb is now the standard ?, lets face it soon the devs will be using harddrives like they do on the PC where the only thing the DVD/Blu ray will be used for is mainly copy protection.

The devs are only interested in Official products so anything less than the 80 gig will proberly be sidesteped

MS saw this coming long ago that is why they dont officially favour any HDDVD systems and that is why the Elite is here.

20gb PS3 and 360 owners will have to eventually upgrade as will the PS3 60 gb users or be left behind by the Big game releases.

» @Stealth!

Well that might not work until everyone has high speed internet and most places don't even the capabillity yet and I see what Bill Gates was talking about but I don't see it happening in this generation maybe next gen

» @ stealth!

And that might be a problem if the PS3 owner couldn't just buy ANY 2.5" HDD to put in their PS3. Unlike Xbox which requires MS's over priced 120gig ($180 if im not mistaken, compared to a $67 for a 120gig HDD for the PS3 right now at Newegg)

by ... - 2007-08-28 08:58
» I just did it

I chose 3 random movies and a 60 gig system and went to check out, the total came to 488 + tax. I assume its based on what blu-ray titles you choose, to how much you save.

by Thabor - 2007-08-28 10:39
» Duh..

If you're going to upgrade anyway why would you pay for the 80G? That aside there it unlikely Sony would allow a developer to use the entire drive.

Yeah MS sure dodged a bullet there by supporting models which don't have a HD at all.. There is an Elite because MS realized they botched things at the start and that Sony actually had a better plan than them.

» Nice Idea

lol, I told a friend that i could get him a PS3 and the Warhawk game for 540$ (nice deal cause 500$ 60GB PS3+ 60$ Warhawk + tax = 600) and bought everything (plus the 3 bluray movies) for the 540$ (no tax for my state). I plan on mailing for the 5 extra bluray movies. So, 8 bluray movies and an extra friend to play Warhawk with for free:P

» 475???

Where is the 475 bucks price tag? Do they mean use? If so then it will be 449

by Instint - 2007-08-29 05:31
» nevermind it works

yea it works...480 bucks though but it works...it does everything for you at the last checkout

by usmcddv - 2007-08-30 07:20
» not anymore...

price drop seems to have gone up overnight...now you wont get the extra 20 dollar discount. the total will be 499. (you do get the extra 8 movies, though). I dunno what happened?!

by sumguy - 2007-08-30 10:15
» $499 here

What's the deal? I added PotC 1 and 2, The Departed, and the 60gib PS3 and it shows $571.84 cost, $7.46 shipping.

Then -$71.85 for promo, and -$7.46 for free shipping. Bringing the total to $499. How do I knock off that extra 20?
