'Motion-sensing Pad May Have Rumble Feature' - eDimensional

PS3controllerImmersion Corporation, the technology firm that sued and won against Sony for illegal use of their 'haptic' (rumble technologies, has already commented on Sony's announcement that the PlayStation 3 DualShock will not have a rumble feature due its possible interference on the controller's six axis motion-sensing controller. Now, it's eDimensional's turn to dish out a commentary.

eDimensional is a gaming accessory manufacturer. Like Immersion, they believe that the combination of a touch feedback and motion-sensing is possible. They claim that they are currently working on a G-Pad Pro Gyroscopic controller for PC and PS2, which will make use of both Impression's "advanced vibri-tactile, spinning-mass gaming technologies" and the virtual reality motion-sensing technology.

If they do come up with such a device, then can Immersion representative Mark Belinsky be correct when he said that "there is more to the story than Sony is telling us"? I guess we can not tell for now. Let us all wait until this eDimensional controller comes out and see the combination of the two technologies realized.

» who cares?

why would sony use tech used by a company that sued them. rather than say "immerson is a *****" they took the gracefull way out. companys are supposed to be professional anyways.

I sure hope for all PS3 gamers that they get rumble. I personally can live without it and even turn it off with certain games. Might not be the latest example but F-Zero X was fun with rumble but got really on my nerves beating staff ghosts in time trial. I am playing PGR3 all the time now (got my 360 last week) and I love the rumble with this game.

I am just wondering what really is true about the rumble feature in the PS3's controller. If you believe Sony's story about the rumble interfering with the motion sensing than this makes Sony look even more desperate sacrificing rumble technology just to put in the motion sensing. Also I cannot really belive that Sony do not have the money to pay the royality fees to put in Immersion's technology. So I guess Sony really did fail to incorporate both technologies - which is not surprising if they only had two weeks to accomplish this

» huh?

It may be possible, but is it good? I mean, people who have used the PS3 controller said control was nice and responsive.

I wonder if the responsiveness would go way down if you added rumble along with motion?

A decent solution would be to have one or the other able to be turned on, but not both at the same time.

» Rumble

Does anyone notice rumble anymore? Most PS2 games support it, but due to the fact that it is so frequent, i barely notice its existance...

» USB

I just want to know why there's a USB port on the front of that controller instead of the usual permanent cable.

by NEO FOLLOWER2 - 2006-05-27 06:25
» ...cause its...

cause its wireless and usb cable is used to charge it or just play while its plugged in...

also... u dont think u notice rumble but in ur mind u do...

in a racing game like gt4 or forza when u hit the dirt(get off the road) it rumbles and u know exactly when u need to go back...

in a shooter like halo or killzone u need to be able to know when ur getting shot at instead of just seeing ur bar go down...

just go try to play gt4,forza,halo, or killzone and turn off vibration it requires u to pay much more attention to things that in real life u can just feel it(car goes off road it shakes slightly,u get shot at u an feel it)so rumble just makes it more realistiic

» *sigh*

sony has never been very professional. they always seem to try to save face by saying that they planned to do something in the first place. and that it wasent their fault.

sony, grow up.

take the offer by the guys who sued you to give you rumble. you'll benefit in the long run.

admit that the Wii's motion sensing was badass and decided from them that you wanted motion sensing.

*sigh* ive lost all respect for sony, its sad, they had a good product.

» they didnt copy...

they didnt copy it if they used it first...also its not the same technology anyways...

for the wii u can move it tilt it and do anything and it will sens it...

for the ps3 u can only tilt it if u move the controller to the left it wont sense it

» ugh?

why dosent someone just make a mod program to work with the wii controller?
