More PS3 Details Emerge

In what has already been a very busy day for Playstation 3 enthusiasts everywhere, a few more details have been announced regarding this prestigious machine from SCE's president Ken Kutaragi besides the November launch date. Among other things, the first official pricing details have been talked about declaring that the PS3 will be no less than 50,000.00 JP YEN, which converts to roughly $425 USD. If this is true, the core PS3 will cost more than the Premium Xbox 360 at launch, and there's even a possibility that this value is a little on the low side.

As previously mentioned, the 60GB HDD will support Linux much like Playstation 2. The hard drive will be upgradable (for a fee, of course) and it can even act as a wireless access point for the PSP. Not only can it be used as a Location Free Player so you can watch your favorite shows from anywhere in your house, but it's looking like files can be stored on the hard drive and also streamed. Once the PSP receives its Macromedia Flash Player update, it might be possible to play these games directly off of the PS3.

While the delay was caused mostly due to the Blu-ray copy protection issues, Kutaragi also noted that the PS3 will support the most recent HDMI connections, which will allow for higher frame rates and sharper colors. Fortunately, it will be compatible with all types of TVs, not just HDTVs, so gamers who are already going to suffer from its hefty price tag don't have too much to worry about.

Sony's answer to Xbox Live is the 'Playstation Network Platform', which will provide the basic essentials that any online service should have. Sony Online Entertainment and Gamespy will work together to make this available, and while the basic service will be free there are still plenty of opportunities for you to spend some cash. Shops within each game might even be setup where people can purchase online content with actual money, but hopefully Sony will deliver free demos for games as well.

Sony plan's on replenishing the market with 1 million PS3s each month with a total of 6 million units by the end of March worldwide (sound familiar?), and if they can actually manage to live up to these numbers the shortages shouldn't be horrible. Still, not all of these console will be released in the US on launch day, and like any other launch spanning over three continents, you can expect to see fights breaking out at storefronts and outrageous prices on eBay. Although it seems like a long time to wait, it won't be long before PS3 owners will be entering the 4th dimension!

That site...

Sony probably hasn't looked at that site since they first put it up, notice how it doesn't have the time machine specs either :D

sounds good to me.

I'll gladly pay 425$ for the ps3. Heck, I'll pay 500$. Just wish the preorders would start..... anyone's EB Games and Gamespot started preorders?

Ditto

I would gladly pay 600! Sounds ridiculous? Look at what this thing is capable of! Web browsing, server use, WAP - location free, an actual full on OS, movies and music playble from the HDD as well as games, play games online for free! - just the tip of the ice berg! Not to mention everything else, that, well, the 360 can handel with its platinum bundle. But remember, Sony has NO plans to offer the PS3 in two SKU's, and it has proven to be a waste for MS, so a 400$ US price tag seems right with the 60GB HDD (it is REQUIRED, after all - you cant sell a system that requires all games to make standard use of the thing). But anyway, yeah, I would gladly pay 500 bucks too and I think that is actually what it will retail for, BUT .... that is what I believe it would retail for right now. Unless they add some new things, or a drive faster than 4x, then I would say it is even feasable for it to be released at years end for 400 bucks. And just to note, I have a 360 too and I am getting a REV as well as the PS3. I sold my PSTwo/PSP, and games, earlier this year for over 700 bucks, so I am set for at least the consoles this november (I have gamefly, so I guess games are covered too! - LoL). I think, in the end, they all have games worth looking into. I just have had more fun on PS hardware, so I aint no Sony fanboy - its just my opinion. If MS offered something like this for 4-500, I would have bought that too (but then again I paid nothing for my 360, so LoL) and be enjoying it. I just dont see why its a big deal when I give Sony praise for it, people call me a fanboy.

That's insane. Hell no, i'm going to wait for it to drop down to 200 bucks. Yeah, I mind as well forget about Next Gen games for a cupple of years from now.

We were told how much the ps3 was in yen but not anywhere else.If you convert the price it is about 352 euro which is an unbelievable price considering what you are getting but i am guessing we will pay the american amount in euro so we will get ripped off. Please sony dont let that happen
