More on Home from Son... er, Three Speech |
Ó
The "semi official" entity that is Three Speech gives the lowdown on all things found within Sony's planned PlayStation Home. First up, below are a few bullet points that should give you folks an idea of what Home is all about:
- It is the first of its kind on a computer entertainment console
- A unique blend of community, user-generated content, collaboration and commerce that is the future of computer entertainment.
- Will broaden the online community market in the same way that the PlayStation brand has broadened the gaming market
- Will take the mystery and the geekiness out of online interaction, and make it as easy as text messaging or picking up the phone
- Is inclusive and welcoming, not exclusive and daunting like current offerings
- Is the gateway and start point for a whole raft of future PlayStation Network services
Yes, Sony confirms that the service will be global. Yes, it will be free for download. Of course, items needed to pimp your Home, have to be bought on the store. Closed beta will be later this spring, official launch will be later this year. Supported Languages so far include: Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. The download is targeted to be just under 500 megabytes.
Aside from just furniture, you'll be given options to purchase new landscapes and apartments. They hint that you can even eventually build your own neighborhood. They will provide tools that folks will need to generate player-created content. You'll be able to use your virtual space to share movies, music, and photos stored in your PS3's HDD. There will be game-specific lobbies.
Finally – we leave this last because some of you folks are still allergic to microtransactions – lobbies will be created by first and third parties to allow for "user interaction and commerce." We'll also leave you folks with Sony's explanation of how this is not an Xbox Live ripoff:
Home is a first of its kind 3D community that allows for open interaction between consumers, SCE and third party partners. It is a truly interactive, global community of users. Xbox Live is a static, 2D, text-heavy environment that canÂ’t match the rich community features found in Home. Xbox Live community interaction is much more passive and limited to the members on that friendÂ’s list.
There folks, fuel for your online flaming/debating needs. If you're going to join a PS Home vs.XLA vs Mii discussion/flame war, at least get into one armed.

this is a good day for me
Once again you get into this whole thing about which is better. Well, now it seems that Home will offer more customization than Miis and Xboxlive, sorry, they're turning this into like the sims or something, Lol.
As for the pros and cons of each:
Xbox-live: Yeah, lots of text, simple.(Simple is best, right?)
Wii-net!: Cartoonish!(Jus t like Nintendo
I work so hard defending the PS3 against flocks of xbots. Someone has to recognize my efforts!! I want to be part of the beta testing group.
I want in it too! I heard on other sites that it's a public beta, but this says closed beta?? I thought that's what the private beta (which has already been going on) was.
This blows Xbox live and Wii Channels all together. It's so vast and imaginative. Kinda like an online myspace. Great job sony.
Altho, might get tricky for sony with all the creative-ness. Alot of people will be posting personal stuff, like pix of them/vids of them. Prolly can show off some porn [lolol]
I wonder how they[sony] will handle that?
yay sony sims
