Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - Image 1Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots' release on the Sony PlayStation 3 can't come soon enough, but since we still have to wait, we're all for pouncing on whatever Kojima Productions can feed us to satiate our hunger prior to the scheduled June 12 launch. This time, new details have surfaced to further whet our appetite.

According to a forum member at the NeoGAF forums who claims to have acquired the latest issue of the UK's Edge Magazine, plenty of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots features you probably haven't heard of were unleashed. Here are the highlights:
  • Ending will blow you away
  • Snake needs injections to stay alive
  • Snake will have two new energy bars that makes Snakes advanced age impossible to ignore
    • Stress changes depending on fight conditions and can improve accuracy or Snake's ability to sustain damage, but can cause him to become exposed to his illness; can be reduced by smoking a cig
    • Psyche is Snake's general state of mind, balance with stress affects progress.
  • There's something special about the camera that Kojima Productions is keeping in tight wraps
  • Secrets and other content won't be discovered until months or even years of play
Other promising factoids were mentioned, like Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots offering players highly detailed and fashionable consumer gadgets to toy around with. Stealth is still intact, but utilizing air ducts and sneaking past cameras have become fast paced. The game's production values was also said to transcend modern video games, defined as "more suited to Return of the King than Halo 3."

already knew about the stress and psyche thing (I remember seeing or hearing about it somewhere). Can't wait till it releases (or even for the beta). I'm going crazy waiting for the 17th/21st.

» man..

I don't think the energy bars are that great of an idea. Games like MGS3 and San Andreas got kinda annoying when you constantly had to babysit over your character. They might make it work though.

As for the actual game though, I just want to buy it and play through the story. I know people will sit there and search for secrets, and there will probably be tons of them, but yeah.

Unless it's been moved, it's being released June12th not July12th.

We all knew that it would have an ending to blow us away. It's the conclusion of the series so that was a given.

Everything else sounds pretty cool too, especially the little bit about the secrets. Looking forward to this day.
