Box art for Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 4 for Xbox 360, PS3 - Image 1With only a couple of weeks to go before Rockstar Games' flagship title Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) goes out, a couple of rumors regarding the title's release has once again popped up. Neogaf forum poster Skip (a.k.a. Andrew Pfister, writer of 1UP's GTA 4 preview) revealed that the upcoming game will have a five-minute mandatory install time for the PlayStation 3 version.

It was further revealed that the installation for the Xbox 360 version of GTA 4 is a completely optional feature. Unfortunately, there's been no confirmation from Rockstar whether this will make it in the final version of the game when it ships to retail stores.

In addition, word from CVG's GTA 4 special feature has it that the Xbox 360-exclusive downloadable content for the game won't just contain the odd car or additional skins. The DLC will supposedly contain an area as significant as Vice City or San Andreas. Should this rumor be true, it'll definitely extend playability for the Xbox 360 version by leaps and bounds.

We only have less than two weeks to go before the release of Grand Theft Auto 4, so we might as well wait and see how Rockstar decides to play out its cards until then. In any case, make sure to come back to this spot for more updates regarding this much anticipated title.

San Andreas? Shaaawing!

» Fake

Im going to call the supposed extra island or land base fake until proven to be true. I think the 360 fanboys are going to praise this even though there is not factual evidence to prove that this is the case. If it does end up true, congrats to the people who own a 360 as I will be disappointed. Even though I will have hope, because we don't know what the circumstances are over Microsoft's exclusive deal. It could be timed, or it might not be.

For those of you who may wonder, I own a PS3. A 20gb version to be exact, but it does have a 120gb HDD installed though.

What is this install for?

To allow the game to load faster since the game will be loading from BOTH the hard drive and the disc drive.

» Please be true!!!

I'm so happy I have a 360!!! If this is true I guess Microsoft did get it's money worth and wasn't lying when they said the DLC would be like an expansion just like SA and VC was to GTA3.

I seriously doubt they could produce DLC this big that quick. Personally I think the DLC will still be large in size. Because Rockstar has a $50 million budget for 2 episodes and you would expect that most of the development team at Rockstar North will move onto episodic content development after the main game ships. But they only have 4 months of development if the August release date for the first episode is in fact true. I would scale back your expectations and wait for more details.

» LOL And there are people to think it's true? LOL

If they didn't made GTA4 as big as san andreas, it's surely not to make a downloadable content bigger than the actual game that took 4 years to make, LOL. It's gonna be, like Rockstar said (not directly), like the GTA stories we had on the psp and ps2. It's on the same map, but feature a new story addition (not written nor made by the offcial rockstar north team that worked on GTA4, it's experience for the new guys with experienced ones leading the team). It's surely gonna last an hour to 5, and it's a great bonus for the x360 version (but you have to pay for it).

For the installs; The ps3 install will surely take around 5 minutes, yes. I'd say around the same time as assassin's creed, maybe a minute more. And stop getting all frustrated, I mean, it's 5 mins for the next 40 hours + of gameplay, and it's the same for PC. And for the x360 rumor, it's just a rumor since microsoft cannot release games that install on the HDD (sadly). At least, not in the US (in Korea, they didn't have the core model without HDD so one or two games could be installed for faster leading times (bullet witch is one of them I think). It would be great to make the game faster on x360 but sadly, microsoft popped a stupid core model. Next time they won't make the same mistake, that's for sure.

Finally: STOP TRUSTING ANY RUMORS! Man. And for the downloadable content, Rockstar said they are working on downloadable content for the ps3 too, it's just not gonna be "the same" (Dah!, I think some people over redmond wouldn't like it really much, lol). Still, the ps3 stuff is only in the state of "rumor" right now so don't get hyped or something. But anyway, even with an x360, I wouldn't buy the stuff. I mean, I prefer buying full games... and it's not like I'll lack games this summer, lol. A great year for us gamers!

Yeah, we the ones who really got pawned out of all of the different PS3 versions. But as long as you enjoy it, Who the F|_|ck cares. I too plan on getting a bigger hard drive this summer. I'm thinking of something between 250-350gb. I want to make it worth the purchase, thats why I aint getting something like 200gb.

I feel sorry for those 360 owners who can't update their hard drives like we can. They have to get the Microsoft authorized ones, which cost an arm and a leg.

It's funny you blast a rumor then make a whole heap of your own assumptions.

Dont trust rumors, but beleive platon's assumptions! They are much more credible. Andrew Pfister is a writer of 1UP, but platon is a PS3 GAMER! He must be a more credible source of information.

360 owners dont need to install their games so unless you purchase movies space isn't a problem.

» "purchase movies"

I think this is what he was getting at, for those who do lots of downloads on their system

by Squidtech - 2008-04-18 02:49
» eh...

I download basically 100% of the demos and videos that hit the marketplace and I've never had a problem with my 20 GB.

You can always re-download things, there's no need for a larger drive if you ask me.

Except for it you have a bunch of Xbox Originals, Ninja Gaiden Black is 6gb!!!

» hahahhaahhah

how stupid are people to belive that they think they will be getting a city. R* said it won't be anything significantly big as a new city. They said it will extend the game by 10 hours and how long will a city give?????? a lot more in my opinion. All the dlc will be is more missions that last around 5+ hours god!

by na2rul - 2008-04-18 03:26
» no theres no need for a bigger HDD.....lol

I mean all those nice little hdds, nifty ssd, memory cards that always excel in storage size is a waste of time.

I'd much rather go throught the lengthy re-download process than taking a short cut.

(im loving my 250gb ps3, backup utility is a sinch)

What do u store on it? Game installs? I mean streaming everying from the PC is way better. You can access multiple hard drives across multiple machines. My 360 has access to 2 TB of space. I can access 50GB of music in-game across the network. Seriously...what do you do with that extra space? Do you really transfer media off your PC/Mac specifically onto your PS3?

5 hours of missions, most PS3 games are that long aren't they?

I'll wait to see about the DLC before I "buy" it for any system.

by gtauk - 2008-04-18 21:04
» the dlc

is confirmed to be only missions, some new characters and some new comedy. It was comfirmed by lazlow who is on the radio in gta iv

» @dvsdevice

ask the elite owners.

ps3? unless you purchase movies, an upgrade is going to be worthless.

i keep demos because i can. but i doubt you can save demo on something like a 1tb powerstation

i mean like we ALL have a network power station in our homes. we always leave those pc host/hdd left on 24/7 incase we feel like we just wanna brows through some vids and music. Its always quicker to load from a wireless signal than from a hdd.
