Modern Warfare 2 has no co-op, getting two-player Special Ops mode instead |
Ó

If you've gotten used to the four-player campaign co-op in Call of Duty: World at War, try to get over it if you're also planning to get Modern Warfare 2. The latter not only won't support four-player co-op, it won't even have a campaign co-op mode at all. Instead it'll have a two-player Special Ops mode.
“We don’t do co-op in our story because we’re crafting a very specific experience and we don’t want to ruin that by cramming co-op into it," said Infinity Ward's Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling to VideoGamer. " We take the moments that work really well with co-op, we bring them out and we put them in Special Ops.”
“Sometimes moments get toned down because they don’t fit with the pacing of the experience you’re trying to deliver. There (in Special Ops) it’s all about fun. It’s about playing over and over again, getting a better time – you’ll have a time at the end of it – it’s about challenging a friend going in on co-op and trying to beat it on veteran.”
Bowling also explained the decision to go with two players: "Two player seemed to be the magic number for co-op. That’s when it stayed really fun and intense without becoming a clusterf**k of things. We just found that two-players was the most fun.”
Modern Warfare 2 will be out November 10 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

And, I think it's less that "...two players was the most fun", and more that "We didn't have time left to work on a REAL co-op mode, or playtest for more than 2 users".

IDK I guess 4 player coop wouldn't have hurt anybody, but if it didn't make sense to them then oh well. Special Forces looks pretty badass anyway

When you design a game and levels for single player, porting in another player for coop makes the gameplay feel.... well, it feels tacked on: World at War.
I say, keep them separate with different but equal attention and love for each mode. Make single player great AND make coop great.
