Mirror's Edge expects 3 million in sales because it's 'different' |
Ó
Well, being different certainly helped with games like Grand Theft Auto and Okami. Even Cooking Mama. But can it work for Faith, the iconic hero of Mirror's Edge (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)? According to the game's marketing director, they're expecting the game to sell 3 million in sales simply for "being different":
We're being helped immensely, just by the look of the game. You look at a screenshot of Mirror's Edge, and you know what it is.
Some games do a good job with a unique look. You see a screenshot of Bioshock, and you'd know it was Bioshock.
Mirror's Edge certainly is different, and it's visual style is amazing. The character design for Faith alone is enough to make the game stand out. However, "different" is the name of the game in the industry these days.
It's getting that being different is a prerequisite for a good game. LittleBigPlanet and Heavy Rain are prime examples. They stand out because of their non-conventional visual style. In other words, Mirror's Edge is no different in being different. The trick to make a great game is having a great blend of visual style and gameplay. And from what I've seen of the game, it has the "great gameplay" down pat as well. They might very well meet that 3 million.

i expect over-hyped [not even that hyped] fail. I like the different of prince of Persia rather than this. although i have to give them points for not going with the brown look.
it is made by EA.
P.S. that asian lady is FINE.
You'd better not be talking about the main character, because if you are;
What's wrong with you ? That girl is damn straight ugly
Well as soon as i saw the first trailer, I was sold. It looks different and fun.
Honestly, this game doesn't look too great to me. Maybe if it was in third person, but being a platformer in first person just doesn't looks right.
When I first saw the game play footage I couldn't help but think about the Blair Witch Project and other movies with a shaky camera. Also, the fighting just seemed so...odd. I don't know how to explain it. It was just looked bad in my opinion.
I'm getting tired of seeing her
asian, then stfu. i'd rather have her than your obese women.
The gameplay looked to be the driving force behind this ... I'd won't pass judgement because the parcour/free-running really sounds appealing to me (specially after the redundant but fun AssCreed)
I think the gameplay and movement is gonna be very interesting but the footage that has been shown has me concerned graphically. The environments seem pretty bare. They seem to be pretty much a lot of gray with a bright gawdy orange highlighting environments usable to the player.
All the lines seemed pretty jaggy to me when I finally saw a full sized preview as well.
I'm interested to feel how the combat mechanics play out....
I'm also wondering how disoriented I'll become while platforming in FPS...
Guess I'll really now know if I'm gonna put $$ down for this until I actually play a bit of it.
it's because of people like you guys that the games industry is lacking inovation if its not an fps or a crappy fifa game then it's crap.
and the t man agrees: I pity the fool who went to school
sorry guys mr t is still upset cause america wouldnt let him into school for being black thats the yanks for you i told him.
It's not gonna be helped by the fact that it's "special". Okami DID NOT sell well at all! Konami, after Okami's desastrous sales, closed Clover studio... it's not helping much to be different.
BUT this game looks good. I can't say much since I know almost nothinga bout it right now...
I hope it turns great!
