Minimal BD-J (Java) Devkit for PS3 |
Ó
Okay, FreePlay's been busy putting together a minimal SKD for BD-J development, and he's generously shared it to the rest of the young PS3 homebrew community. What this release brings you is basically everything you'll need to get started, save for a couple of things:
- a working installation of JDK, the Java Development Kit (get that from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp - currently, the latest version is JDK 6 Update 7)
- a copy of bdj.jar, the BD-J API. I can't provide this, since you need a license to use it; however, if you have a PC program capable of making or playing Blu-Ray discs - like Nero or PowerDVD - you can get this file from there. (In Nero 8, the file is located in C:program FilesCommon FilesNeroNeroBLCBDJjl ib .)
While this brew is looking pretty good, there have been found some pretty strict limitations on the PS3's implementation of the BD-J:
- You cannot read or write local files.
- You cannot list the contents of a directory.
Oh, and do take note that for this to work properly, you MUST copy it to the root of your C: drive - that is, to C:bdj-ps3. DO NOT rename the folder.
There are more instructions and details to be learned, so make sure you do read and understand the readme as soon as you download the file, and before you try it out. Thanks, FreePlay!

now we need a a way to get homebrew without buying a $600 blu-ray burner.
I've made a modified version of this devkit for *NIX environments (like Linux). The same rules still apply (requires the Java SDK and "bdj.jar").

Made a mistake in the Makefiles and fixed it, download link above wont work

Seriously, you post an article that is just my Readme with pronouns changed?
after the next fw update,
ill try this out
if its still working O_o
comon sony, youve always said your user creation friendly even though you block HB every chance you get,
theres restrictions on this, just let us have this for now
you also always considered HB as a feature, now its alreayd implemented just keep it
They are actually coming down in price. I bought a pre-installed external burner off of ebay. The exterior case was from Galaxy Metal Gear, and the drive inside was manufactured by LG. The model of the drive is GGW-H20L. I payed $299.99 + 19.99 for UPS Ground shipping. I own a lot of content which I have on DVD/DVD9 that I would like to have on only one disc. The discs are the part that are still expensive. This is the cheapest place that I have found for disc prices + combined shipping.
Sorry, the link for the site that I buy my BD-R/BD-RE was not submitted into the text. Do a google search for ACCA Products.
Well well well, its FreePlay working with the oh so bad exploit...
have u ever create / try to create an experimental devkit in your freetime to benefit others with homebrew for any system
If you did well good for you. You deserve a cookie.
At least someone is working on a way to play their own created games 4 the ps3....

Maybe in the next year or so we'll have some awesome homebrew out for the PS3
