Midway's Josh Hamrick on BlackSite: Area 51's multiplayer features |
Ó
Midway Games game designer Josh Hamrick discussed multiple features in the multiplayer mode of BlackSite: Area 51 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC) on the official developer's blog. He pointed out that this first person shooter will have four multiplayer gameplay modes and eight maps taken from the single-player game when it comes out this November 12.Hamrick discussed four different gameplay modes such as the standard Deathmatch (DM), Team Deathmatch (TDM), Capture the Flag (CTF), and Abduction. He explained that while gamers would probably have a great time playing any of the modes, the one he is most excited about is CTF.
The game developer stated that not all FPS games provide a good CTF experience, and those that fail have the games turning into a "fragfest" instead of the tactical game it was meant to be. Hamrick pointed out that BlackSite: Area 51 avoids this pitfall because of the way the weapon systems were designed:
The way our weapon systems work, choosing your arsenal really pays off the way you play and encourages the teams to cover the field in a way that is similar to soccer. You end up with backfield guys who are solely playing defense, offensive players who will be the one bringing the flags home and midfield guys that are their do offer support to both groups.
The game's eight maps were taken from various key locations in the single player campaign of BlackSite: Area 51. Of course they couldn't just grab an area and put it in so each one was either re-made or further polished by our the game's multiplayer lead Tom Bonner and designer Harold Handlin. Hamrick noted that both Tom and Harold did a great job with the flow and balance of the maps. This is good news since most multiplayer veterans know that there's nothing worse than losing a match because a map favored the opposing team.
If the multiplayer aspect of the game is exactly as Hamrick described, then we can probably expect BlackSite: Area 51 to take the gaming community by storm.
