Microsoft: Xbox 360 still better, even if PS3 gets price cut |

If and when the PlayStation 3 gets a price cut,
practically everyone expects sales to boom, if not completely skyrocket
to the moon.Enough to catch up and totally whoop the Xbox 360 perhaps? Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg isn't particularly bothered by the idea:
I think they're struggling frankly because of the economic situation. We were fortunate to be able to drop to the US$ 199 price point. They are stuck at twice the price.
I think we feel good about the price point we're at today. We're not too worried about it. Our belief is we will be able to continue to deliver more entertainment ... at a better value even if they dropped (the price) by US$ 100. We would still maintain a price advantage.
We feel like even before you think about the price, the Xbox offers a lot more in addition to being a better value.
Remember when Sony sent out that press release outlining all the points why the PlayStation 3 was better than the competition, calling Microsoft an add-on peddler? Well, here's what Greenberg has to say about that:
We shouldn't force (consumers) to pay for something they (don't want) to use. I sure wouldn't want to trade places with them -- this is probably their worst ... holiday in history.
And that concludes today's bout of mud slinging. Now remember folks, leave the fanboy mudslinging to Sony and Microsoft. It's their job.

Sony is never worried when microsoft drops prices, and microsoft is never worried when sony drops prices. They just say this to look confident. I'm sure behind their official word, they are thinking like normal people instead of being over-confident.
Do you expect for M$ to admit anything that would make them look inferior to Sony? Of course not. As far as the 360 goes, how does he come to the conclusion that it has more to offer and if it does then what?
If the PS3 does get a price cut it may not automatically catch up to the 360 in terms of sales, but it certainly would help. I paid $599 for my launch PS3 and I would still take that over the 360 Elite at full launch price anyday.
Me: I'm better than everyone else, even if you dont think so. That's awesome, but the only reason that $ony is going to sell more ps3s with a price cut is b/c people who are still on the fence for a bluray player would see the value in having the full package (even though most who buy the ps3 for bluray dont even know how to update it, or how to use a controller to control the movie instead of the remote). Its sad that a gaming console is making its way into people's homes and not being used for games. Thats like if i got a 360 because i like the windows media center feature or because i like the netflix instant streaming. Or if i got a psp for its browser. Or if i got a wii cause its shiny and quiet and i like making avatars. Thats my rant, and i didnt bash the ps3, just the non-gaming sony customer base contributing to this retardation
and i have to admit that sony is acting stupid, their stupid pride is the main problem with their sales. at the beginig when sony released the ps3, the media asked the ceo a question, which was, do u think people would buy this expensive product? and the ceo said that the consumers would get a second job if needed to buy a ps3, and also said that it would sell even if there are no games on it. previously, and advertising company requested sony if they can advertise killzone 2, and the ceo said that ps3 exclusives shouldn't have to be advertised, i was like OMG ***** U SONY, U R LOSING, LOSE UR STUPIDITY FIRST!!!

Please clarify, because from where I'm standing the PS3 has a lot more to offer out of the box, free online, the best Blu Ray player on the market, and from this years lineup the opportunity to pull ahead in number of good exclusive software titles, so unless this guy has some more evidence to back this up I'm just going to keep laughing at his statement.

i buy a game system to have the best game system on the market. lets backtrack to the xbox and ps2, did u base your console choice on the features, quality, and versatility of dvd playback, or did u base it on the games. isn't that what consoles are about? and psn is free, after u take it up the butt for the system itself. core 360 system and 2 yrs of live is $300, still $100 cheaper than $ony, and im sure in 2 yrs there will be another next gen. i hate it when people bring that crap up, just blind consumers. price is relative, ur paying extra here and there on 360, ps3 u pay most up front. i like options, and good games, and i cant stand movies anymore. hollywood cant stand up to the quality of the gaming world, crapping out titles like hotel for dogs, saw v, igor, and bangkok dangerous. and ps3 has to work on their customer service/relations if they intend on gaining more in the future, of course theres the fanboy base, but even those get mad when they get pissed on (i know i did).

People will always flock to the cheaper option if they have no idea about the pros and cons of each console are. Microsoft's Xbox 360, even with all its bugs and technical issues, would still sell more even if the PlayStation 3 was virtually the same price.
The reason for this is that the Xbox 360's exclusive library is much bigger. You get more for your money. Cutting the price of the PlayStation 3 is only the first step. If Sony want to be top of the market, they need to concentrate on exclusive titles.

Exclusive means not cross platform, if it's for the PC it doesn't count. So you're left with Lost Odyssey as pretty much your only EXCLUSIVE good game.

a 12 yr old? spoken like a $ony fanboy, its just the facts. i admit im biased b/c sony has fcked me over before, and ms has fcked me and compensated for it. and finalhero, forza 2 (3 by the end of 2009 and i trust that it will be) and dont say gt5 prologue is a counterpart cause i dont like paying for demos, they should be free. i was a sony guy bc of the gran turismo series and i dont like being toyed around w/that stuff, *ahem* gt mobile for psp, which was the only reason i bought the system and it never came out. halo 3, i know what ur gonna say but its a staple and if it aint broke dont fix it, best multiplayer on the system, arguable with cod. strong xbla titles (ill count that as one game to keep it simple) castle crashers, soul calibur 1, guilty gear, rez, and the upcoming marvel vs capcom. basically the slow but actually there resurrection of all that was great on the dreamcast, but if u got a psx during that time you probably wouldnt have enjoyed the best fighting games of all time. and for the gears comment, gears 1 was a great game and was greatly improved in the second installment. left 4 dead which is pretty killer, and i have to say that im havin trouble with #5 bc the rest are cross platform, and i see ur point on ur challenge. but you have to realize this argument can go on forever, i just wanted to get the point across that a bluray player built in isnt a value, its a benefit and u pay for it. if sony realeased a good gran turismo game within the next yr, they might get my dollar, but that was downright shady what they ded on psp and i dont give money to shady people unless they smell like a rastafarian. long story short, the ps3 is nice, but when the bluray library is growing quicker than the game library, its frustrating, dunno if u see that too. and i can challenge u to that same 5 game bs but im sure ul come up shorter until summer rolls thru

How is a 360 a better value? Its basically a PS3 without a blu-ray player, out dated wireless tech and all add-ons have to be bought separately.

dylantalon. selling a lot of copies doesn't automatically make a game great. it makes it appealing to its set market. Wii sports sold in the tens of millions but that doesn't mean every gamer worth their salt would want it. call on value not quantity.
The 360's good exclusive games that I've at least heard of or played are Gears of War 1+2, Halo 3 (I don't care much for the story in any of the Halo series but the online play can be fun), Halo Wars, Halo ODST, Left 4 Dead, Fable 2, Too Human (I've heard mixed reviews on it), and maybe a few others that I don't know or can't think of.
However (In my opinion), the PS3 has great games like Resistance 1+2, Warhawk, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted: Among Thieves, Metal Gear Solid 4, Motorstorm and Motorstorm Pacific Rift, LittleBIGplanet , inFamous, Killzone 2, God of War 3, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Socom: Confrontation, Heavy Rain, and possibly some more.

COD WaW sold 1.3m on the 360 and only 533k on the PS3. Most people would rather buy a cross platform game on a 360 rather than the PS3.
Many 360 exclusives are coming to the PS3 and improved. I have a 360 and PS3 and both of them has the same amount of good exclusive games. Gears was too overrated and so was Resistance but both were okay. 360 has a lot of RPGs but mostly crappy. Halo 1 was still better than 3. And I don't know what the hell happened to Ninja Gaiden. Heavenly Sword was okay and was the worst game that Sony published. Sony publishes really great games. Trust me I pretty much have all 360 games and many of them are okay. Let's face it, the really great games are multiplatform. The only thing I'm waiting for this year is how MS is going to respond to the PS3 games coming out and a "price drop".
You can download HD and Blu-ray ripped movies and store them to you're PS3 without a hassle(free if you're download them illegally like most do). 500GB HDD is only $100 now. The only thing I hate about the PS3 is that there aren't many hacks and exploits.
BTW the game library is growing and you need to stop counting some 360 exclusives because many of them are moving to the PS3 and some are enhanced.

I understand numbers are numbers. Facts are facts. But think of it this way. More people that own a PS3 bought a copy of the game than people that own a 360. I know, stupid thought. But hey, I saw some significance in that.
at this stage of the PLC, the only way the competitor can increase their sales is to steal other competitor's customers. i say the price cut is a classic example for staying in the industry. due to the fact that fanboys are the early adopters of the next-gen consoles, M$ and Sony should at least reward them with better product support and getting a better relationship with the game devs, since that would help in increasing the game library of the said consoles.
Why does everyone think Resistance is about aliens...The Chimera aren't aliens. sqrl175 back when the PS2 and first X-box were out PS2 had all the great games and x-box had very little, it's not like that with the 360 and PS3, both consoles have great games. So deciding on buying a console just for the games might be harder than it was before, maybe having a blu ray player and its video capabilities could sway a few people or the price of the console. I also noticed how you mentioned that the core 360 and 2 years online is cheaper than the PS3 but what if you want to play online longer than 2 years? What about 4 years? or 6 years? You mention XBL games but don't you need a hard drive to download those games to?

Yeah the main reason I got a 360, was the fact that all my friends had them, so it was better I get one and able to play with them, other then alone on a ps3.

1:either way you still have to also pay for wifi for the ps3 so saying that you have to for the 360 and not for the ps3 is completely wrong.

microsoft gives you options. the hd player is only 50 dollars and you an get it IF you want to watch hddvds on it. you dont have to have it.

I think that if the blu ray player for the ps3 had been an optional addon that couldve helped considering the price wouldve been lower. And besides,most of us just buy a console for the gaming experience. both have good games,i myself find myself enjoying resistence 2 just as much as gears of war 2. Overall both are good consoles. and getting one is a matter of preference not just "features". In this technological era sony has lost site of the community and its gamers just like nintendo
