Microsoft exec Neil Thompson doubts Sony |

Okay, first we're going to cite the two main points that Xbox UK boss Neil Thompson said in an interview with MCV (a UK interactive entertainment weekly). Then we'll reply.- He promised retailers once again that there will be no holiday shortages of Xbox 360 consoles to worry about. He went as far as to joke, "I think that if we ran out of stock based on my high estimates, IÂ’d be knighted by Bill!" (High estimates not cited in abstract of interview appearing on MCV's website)
- He also - once again - expressed his doubts about the PS3, this time about Sony's marketing strategy. "Sony itself doesnÂ’t seem to be sure of what itÂ’s offering; they donÂ’t seem to think of PS3 as a games console."
- Good. Your confidence that Microsoft will meet hardware demands this holiday season is reassuring, especially to our fellow gaming consumers across the Atlantic. Hey, kidding aside, service to the consumer is worthy of knighthood.
- Don't worry too much about Sony's strategy with the PS3, Mr. Thompson. So you think Sony doesn't think of the PS3 as a game console. Maybe you're right, and Sony doesn't think of the PS3 as a game console. But then, the game companies think of the PS3 as a game console, while some gamers think of the PS3 as a games console. Either way, it's nice to know that you care about the competition.

Anyway, the ONLY reason Sony pushes the Ps3 as a computer instead of a game console is because they want to avoid the european video game import taxes. Simple as that.
It will bug me if they get away with it though, you couldn't argue very well that it actually is a computer just because it uses parts that are similarly used in a computer.

So he's pointing out that 360 will not have a shortage this christmas season. I'll give him props for that. Seems that Nintendo is looking good for units out there too. Good for them too. Wait, doesn't Sony have a couple million out there too...? Oh that's right they don't. Yeah they weren't right about that one either... ah well at least they get to say they'll get the world wide launch they promised us way back in spring. oh wait no I guess they didn't get that one right too.
PS3 a gaming console. Seeing that they keep talking about how great of a blue-ray player it is, and that they keep saying that there will be 100+ blue-ray movies on market come ps3 launch, and seeing that they might give us a movie when we buy the ps3 kind of gives me the impression that Sony looks at the ps3 as a blue-ray player.
So at least the gaming companies are sane enough to TRY and make some games for the dang thing. Only problem is that all you Sony hardcore fans will buy a whole sloo of them and try and figure out how to homebrew your own games and pricy all of the other games out there so you don't have to spend to much and still get everything only to find out that you put your own priceless company bankrupt. All because you love it...
