With the release into the retail shelves of Grand Theft Auto 4, Microsoft is already claiming early victory. According to the latest report from the respected Chart-Track of UK, the Xbox 360 version of GTA 4 has outsold the Sony PlayStation 3 version by 101,000 units.

Does this mean more gamers prefer playing Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) on their Xbox 360? Sony begs to disagree - and they may have a point. Chart-Track's data are for first week sales only, with the Xbox 360 totalling 514,000 units and the PS3 accumulating 413,000 units. The race has just begun, actually.

However, Microsoft is confident that this trend will stay this way because they believe the Xbox 360 has certain advantages. According to Chris Lewis, the Vice-President of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, the Xbox 360 can render Liberty City "in all its 720p high-definition glory" Reportedly, Sony's console can only display at 640p.

To add to that, Microsoft has already secured exclusive GTA 4 episodes this coming autumn. So we'll see how this will shape up. More updates as QJ.NET gets them.

This is getting ridiculous between the two of them (Sony and MS) Going back and forth, and I mean, who cares which console it does better on? It's a great game available for both...

» double standars MS

halo 3 was 640p and it was OK? now gta4 is 640p on ps3 and it isn't .if you go by the # of consoles sold MS is in the hole since they have a 3 times bigger I.B than Sony and all they could come out was 100k + copies sold over the PS3.they should had used those 100+ millions they spend on extra content and marketing to fix the RROD wile they spend all that money Sony was chilling on a chair on the sun looking a MS sweeting hard working to get people to buy the game on 360 by any means in Europe like lowering the price, giving free MS points.

This bit of news if nothing but a flame war in the making. I will do a preemptive strike and tell everyone to shut up now.

This whole thing is stupid. MS has more consoles in the market, why shouldn't they sell more copies? It doesn't mean they won *anything*.

I'm curious to know the percentage numbers...what percentage of 360 owners have GTA IV vs. what percentage of PS3 owners have GTA IV.

Straight sales mean jack if one side wants to claim some sort of pointless victory that evidently makes their respective manhood just a little bit bigger.

Sales would only show preference for those with both consoles.

I got the 360 version because of the extra content. I also like not having to install several gigs of data on the hard drive. Until Rockstar releases a patch for PS3, the 360 version is less prone to freezing (0 for me.) The online also works great.

The PS3 has slightly better graphics and may be better if the issues are fixed.

But really, who cares? Both are great versions.

» honestly...

i dont really see them fighting... its more of Microsoft bragging about something they have no proof about.. Yes they'v sold more systems and thus most likely more GTA4 games but that in no way says that they have the better system. it just means thev been out for a year and a half. but im sick of anything made by microsoft.... they says that there the best when there not in anything. i try to buy things like macs, ps3, wii's.

Im just tired of ally microsoft fanboys telling me that im stupid for buying a mac/ps3/wii or anything else! when the fact is im happier than ever with the stuff i have now than i ever did with a microsoft product!
