Microsoft approached Tomb Raider: Underworld for exclusive DLC

Tomb Raider: Underworld - Image 1Microsoft's getting really aggressive with their tactics. Looks like the exclusive downloadable content for Tomb Raider: Underworld wasn't a case of favoritism towards the Xbox 360; Microsoft approached Crystal Dynamics to make them.

This was explained by the creative director of the game, Eric Lindstorm. He explains that the DLC wasn't really part of the main game, but was made only after Microsoft had approached them to make it:

We were approached by Microsoft, who asked us if we could make some downloadable content for them. It was a great opportunity, it was a great deal and we're happy to do it.

The DLC that we're making for Microsoft is especially made. It's not part of the main game that we saved - we put all the game out there that we were going to put out there. Now we're going to the trouble of adding on spaces where they logically make sense, telling parts of the story.

Underworld marks the third game Microsoft got to sink its claws into for exclusive content, after Grand Theft Auto IV, and Fallout 3. The strategy feels a bit underhanded. It's one thing to make gamers want to buy a console for its platform-exclusive games, but for exclusive DLC for a multi-platform game? That's cheap.

hehe, sure its cheap *****, but that should be a good lesson to sony. They better start being more active with their systems like microsoft, or they will no doubt lose the console war. And yes, i am a sony ps3 owner and i LOVE it.

» Despite PS3 fanboy claims...

Microsoft approached Eidos with big bags of no money at all and asked that they provide exclusive DLC for Xbox. To which, Eidos surely responded "But of course! For Microsoft is the friend to all with but the noblest of ideals. They have done only good and would never put their own needs above those who put their faith in them. Surely we will provide this exclusive content for naught but their asking, for that is what any decent developer would do in our position."

» are you serious?

underhanded? seriously?

it's no more underhanded than having an overall exclusive title, in fact i would say it pales in comparison...

if that is underhanded, then what sony pulled with the PSX/2 borders on a war crime...

» Microsoft are C**TS

Why the ***** don't Sony start doing exclusive stuff with all that extra space on the Blu-ray Disc, all these devs seem to do is make a game for 360 then do *****ty *****ing ports. Why not make a game for PS3 then give a cut down version to 360 then that will make people want to buy the PS3 version!!

» No way

I'd much rather get ps3s exclusive games then exclusive dlc, Theirs nothing I hate more than dlc they already have all planned out and are working on, If your almost done with this dlc why not include it with my 60 dollar game

» The difference between Micro***** and Sony

is that Sony focuses on great exclusive games like LBP and Micro$oft pays millions of $$$ for some exclusive maps etc ...

We all know which of these strategies is more successful ...
