Metal Gear Solid 4 Solid Snake - Image 1In case you've been worrying, Konami Online's Brandon Laurino wants to make it clear that Metal Gear Online on the Sony PlayStation 3 will be just like many other multiplayer titles - free, and ready to welcome downloadable content in the future. Furthermore, Laurino explained what the Konami ID is for.

"MGO is not a paid subscription service, you can play online totally free right out of the box," said Laurino. The Konami ID, which some users thought to be the system Konami Digital will use to charge subscription fees outside PSN, is there to "confirm your identity for future potential microtransaction content updates" according to the representative.

Despite being called Metal Gear Online Starter Pack, he also clarified that it's the online component of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. There won't be a separate product; it's dubbed as a starter pack only because content is yet to be expanded through DLC.

» Wait

That still doesn't answer the question on whether or not we will be logging on through our Konami ID's or our PSN accounts. I'm assuming since we'll be getting DLC that it'll be that latter.

Wouldn't get your hopes up about them dropping the Konami ID thing. I personally don't see it as a problem because I wanted my name to be Eclipse on Psn but it won't let me (and no one has the name), so I made Eclipze_ (I needed the underscore to make it). But now I can have my original name.

And everyone on the beta shouldn't have a problem with it because... Their already signed up!

Back on topic, its called Metal gear online "starter pack" because its the start.. Its not dumbed down or anything, its just the beginning.

I like the Konami ID thing. I hate having to use the same PSN ID for every game. MGO gives the chance to create a name that is unique to that game.

» I'll have to disagree

i am a huge fan of the series, but the whole process of making the Konami ID, my Game Id, and finally my the real name that will show up in the game (im kinda pissed cuz my name couldnt fit) was a total waste of time IMO. I could have hours back of my life that were wasted creating these pointless names and passwords. I hope they will let us use or PSN names in the final product

» @DisposableDweeb

It took you hours to sign up? Are you using dial-up guy?

by Eclipze_ - 2008-04-30 23:50
» You see

This is where people over exagerate. It doesn't take "hours", even if it did then it was your fault you chose to sit there and try and sign up for those hours.

People act like your walking halfway across the world to sign up when you actually just sitting at your home for a few minutes typing in stuff (doesn't seem so hard to me). I can understand people got mad that the Konami ID site wasnt working but its fine now. PLUS for all the beta members we most likely wont have to sign up again, so its no big deal in my opinion.

» nope

the konamiID website was down for a long time and when it was finally up it kept crashing on people. I had to try over and over.
