Medal of Honor shuts out PS Jailbreak |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: Medal of Honor, playstation 3 updates, ps jailbreak, Sony
Since firmware v3.42, Sony has been able to block out hacks such as the PS Jailbreak, at least for those who've updated. Those who wished to continue using the jailbreak have opted to stay away from the update, but with the arrival of Medal of Honor today, jailbreak users may find that staying with their old firmware will inhibit them from playing new games. At least for now.
The PS3 version of Medal of Honor is the first to come with firmware 3.42 in-disc. That means even if you stay offline, Sony is still making sure you don't dodge this bullet, that is if you want to play the new games at all.
You can almost guarantee that future releases will also be carrying similar security measures with them, so with this development, homebrew developers will have to play ping-pong with Sony. Right now, the ball is on their court.

When those issues are solved, skipping the "mandatory" update will be as simple as editing the SFO or pretending to update by answering yes when you have not copied the update pup along with the game, which by the way it's a thing that should be done everytime an upload is made from the PC, be it by copying to an external drive or by FTP uploading, as it's just plain stupid (and lazy?) to copy those extra 200 MB... It's a no brainer, as it's just about NOT copying a folder with a file inside
(disclaimer: this last paragraph was not about any illegal action, because as you all know, me and everyone here don't know anything about stuff like that, it's just general talk about file copying, nothing more, thinking otherwise is an act of bad faith and none of it's contents can be used against you, me, qj or the pope in any civil, uncivil, legal or illegal action of any kind)
BTW, I know someone already said this, but sorry I really must say it too.. this news is just PLAIN old (at least a week).

Those that decided to stay on an older firmware so they could keep the OtherOS support now can't even play some (at the moment, I guess just this one?) games. From now on, as more games do this, the choice will not just be between OtherOS and Network Access, but between OtherOS and Network Access+Gaming.
Not cool.

this is where lawsuits could really take off, as any one that wants to keep all the features they purchased a PS3 with, will now not be able to have the primary use of the system, which is games.
