Massive Action footage for MAG in new trailer |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: SCE, Zipper Interactive
Ó
From the looks of it, MAG is as massive as SCE promises. I'm just watching the trailer and already I'm feeling like I'm thrown into a war zone with bullets flying near my ears. Bad side? Put one foot into the wrong place and you're gonna get fragged. Good side? Once you get better at it, you can hunt and kill enemies like it's duck season. Either way, this fragfest looks as though it'll be a tough act to follow.

This looks like battlefield:mod ern combat enlarged the maps and call it an MMO with larger servers...
As powerful as the PS3 is the live capibilities are less then that of xbox live...I have the second best D-link router and 712k broadband connection it takes me like 12 minutes to find a room in MG online and socom confrontation lags...I go play xbox live COD4 or 5 GoW 2 or any other game and it takes like 20 seconds to find a room connect so i know it isnt my connection...
My design was going to be full land sea and air ranging from...
-land-
(the normal stuff like every other FPS)
-snipers
-assualt
-Spec ops
-demolition
-air-
-Black hawks
-fighter jets
-harriers
-sea-
-submarines (for surfacing missle strikes and underwater battles)
-battleships (to provide bombardment)
-navy seals (units deployed on shore lines)
-vehicles-
-tanks
-humvees (equiped with several different variations of mounted guns)
-cars (a lightining fast vehicle but easily destroyed)
-boats (to destroy boats with C4)
-map sizes-
...how about the size of an entire actual city im not talking about say the size of say 2 times that of any battlefield map im talking about the size of NYC or Philidelphia
-weapons-
-Assualt rifles- (all of which will have full semi and single fire)
-M4 Carbine (my personal favorite)
-G3 (runner up)
-G36c (not on my list but still since people seem to like it)
-M14 (not quite as good as the G3 but not a bad gun)
-M16A1 (very powerful very good gun but M4 still beats it just cause of the amount of attachments you can put on it)
-Ak47 (*insert throw up here* i hate this gun)
-Shotguns-
-M1014 (personal fav)
-Pump action
-double barrel
-sawed off
-sniper rifles-
-Barret .50 cal
-M82
-dragonov
-M10A1
-R700
-smg-
-uzi (1st)
-p90 (tied for 1st
-MP5
-ak74u (i hate it just as much as its assualt rifle counterpart)
-pistols-
USP
.44 sheppard
deagle
M9
S&W .50 cal (8 shot 50 cal pistol
-LMG-
-M60
-rpd
-m249 saw
-attachments-
-laser point
-scopes of all kinds (x2 x4 x 6 x8 x10)
-red dot
-scoped red dot
-grenade launchers (made more realistic then CoD4's)
-shotgun attachment (for the Assualt rifles)
-flashlights (for night version of maps)
-features for the guns-
-multiple attachments (meaning realistic attachments unlike Cod4's must only pick 1)
-multiple modes of fire
(im sure there is more)
-equipment-
-NVG
-Thermal
-gas mask
-frag grenade
-incindiary ""
-flash ""
-stun ""
-smoke ""
-emp "" (meaning certain vehicle controls wont work such as radar in jets and other things in cars and tanks or boats)
-SAM missles
-job placement and room sizes-
each server runs 500 people
randomly selected for each Military group between the air force the army/marines and navy
-job placement-
-Army-
Grunts (meaning soldiers on the ground has the most action) Also tasked to destroy navy boats
-Air force
-pilots (shoots main guns)
-support gunners (runs turret on the bottom or side of Black hawks
-Navy
-captain (controls the assigned boats)
-soldiers (shoots he big guns for bombardment)
-navy seals (deployed under neath the water and the commander of each unit selects and controls where they surface)
-guards (to defend the interior of the ships
(once the boat was destroyed that and everyone on board will then be drafted onto the grunts squad)
Now the only thing that comes down to it was what my school said was money lol...which i dont have lol i should of pattoned my game idea like my school told me to...oh well

712k??? Grrrrrrreat! I like the way you compare PS3 MG to 360 COD4! How about testing COD on both systems? And 20 seconds on your 360 is still a long time. Actually count it. As soon as I click on a game type in PS3's COD4 I'm almost instantly thrown into a lobby/game. I have 8.5Mb connection, by the way.
As for your idea, it does sound awesome. You've clearly put a lot of thought into it, and it would be amazing to play.
Two problems though:
One, I don't think this generation's systems are up to that task yet. There is waaaaaay too much going on. I heard that even next generation's systems will be more geared towards utilising higher-def textures and increased environment lighting and dynamics, rather than pure excess processing power, so you're probably (not definitely) looking at 2 generations away, for such an epic idea.
And Two, your idea is way too broad and abstract to patent at this stage.

712k... yah... this guy means 712kb/s, not kbps, you don't measure your internet speed by the download rate in internet explorer my friend.
and... "oooohhhhh they stole my idea" [lots of alien text here], maybe you should get a little more creative, like maybe creating a GDD and getting a copyright, fool.
And finally, its not the infrastructure of the PSN that is making a game like MAG possible, its the cell, a whole core is dedicated to networking, tossing off irrelevant packets and prioritizing things based on need to know information, the PSN is only part of it. XBOX can't afford to dedicate a whole core to this.
The PS3 has raw processing power but a lack-luster graphics card that doesn't support dd9 or 10, whereas the 360 has great graphics because it has a stronger gcard. The ps3 can achieve the same level of graphics, but it has to supplement the RSX with the CPU, and also requires more talented programmers than it would take to produce the same quality on the 360, KZ2 is a great example of Cell BBE assisted RSX graphics, R2 is a bad one, and COD4 is a good coparison model, as Activision pumped far more resources and talent into the PS3 version and came out with a product that is only marginally superior in terms of game size, frame rate, and graphics.
stay in [pre]school you two...

"The ps3 can achieve the same level of graphics" which is half true, in fact the ps3 has more graphical processing power than the 360.
Maybe you should go back to [pre]school with me and we can have a party and drink lemonade all day.

kbps is kilobauds per second, which is a measure of speed, its like comparing horse power in a car to actual km/h or mph. you might have a 7mbps connection, but you will never get a data transfer rate of 7mb/s in internet explorer...
outside of the United States you can't even connect to XBL with a 712kbps connection, however if you are getting a transfer rate of 712kb/s in your IE window, your connection is most likely 5.5-7mbps.
Now thats out of the way, "in fact the ps3 has more graphical processing power than the 360." Really? you're joking right? Have you ever tried to program one or are you reading gamespot/ign? If you want me to break it down for you, the results of our inhouse tests are that the PS3 is only better with antialiasing and pixel shading, the 360, which I despise might I add, before you slam me as a fanboy, beats the crap out of the ps3 in fill rate, polygons, raw fps, and physics simulations. On top of this the Xbox 360 has dx assisted graphics, PS3 unfortunately does not.
The PS3 was initially supposed to have two graphics chips running in integrated tandem, much like SLI but without the need for each card to have its own copy of the data, this was scrapped in favor of one chip that was cheaper and more powerful than the first chip, but not more powerful than both running in tandem.
In fact, one of the first games we put out on the PS3 we had initially designed for that system, and then were forced to revise as the hardware changed, so yes, the 360 has a more powerful graphics chip, end of story, kapish... and thats without taking into consideration the constant revisions the xbox gets that the ps3 gchip has not yet had.
Bottom line: the PS3 is a powerful supercomputer with an average graphics chip, however most devs learned to program in directx and a windows environment, and expected a lot more from Sony in terms of raw graphics power, most devs are not supercomputer programmers.
Maybe you should go back to [pre]school with me and we can have a party and drink lemonade all day.

"Does every idiot on the internet post on QJ???"
Kb/s and Kbps mean the same thing!
So in answer to your question above, you've definitely bumped the average up.
Idiot.

In "our inhouse tests" 'our' and 'we' and are we talking about the graphics card or the overall ability to render a scene?
