Talk about making up for lost time. Mass Effect 2 producer for PS3, Jess Houston, has just divulged in a recent Bioware podcast that they will be using the engine the Mass Effect 3 engine for it.

To quote: "We've actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and use that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3. So we took the content and the story and all the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put them in the Mass Effect 3 engine. And that's what we are actually delivering."

If that be the case, then we expect some serious ass-kicking from Mass Effect 2 PS3. Then again, don't we all, already? Mass Effect 2 finally graces the PS3 on January 18, 2011. But before that, a demo for it is expected to arrive next week.

It doesn't say graphical overhaul for all you noobs out there and I know PS3 Fanboys are going to go "Oh yea! PS3 > Suxbox 360". Just because you ship a game with a new engine DOES NOT mean that this will represent the newest graphics in Mass Effect 3. Sure, some glowing and particles may be different from the Xbox 360, but overall it will still look and play like the original. Just clearing this up before we get the tidal wave of PS3 Fanboys. Again, this will look EXACTLY LIKE the Xbox 360 version in almost every way.

I'm pretty sure this isn't actually a big deal. It's likely they're using the ME3 engine because it was developed to run on the 360 and the ps3, while the original engine was developed specifically for the 360. Throwing the assets into the new engine and then making whatever tweaks need to be made to get the assets running on the new engine and the ps3 is easier than porting the old engine. Like SoppyHankins said, I doubt you can expect to see much of a graphical difference between the 360 and ps3 versions.
