Ó

me2_bThanks to BioWare dev Casey Hudson, we now have the information that Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 will be getting an interactive comic in the "intro module" of the game. This was revealed in a German interview, which was subsequently posted upon the BioWare forums.

Translation of the interview reveals the following details:

"Casey Hudson [told] the print edition of Play3 that Mass Effect 2 PS3 will include:

  • The interactive comic (from?) Dark Horse informs the player about the back story and offers various choices.
  • The three previously released DLC "Kasumi: Stolen Memories", "Overlord" and "hiding the Shadow Broker".
  • An included code will allow access to all content published to date on the Cerebus Network.
  • A new mission, which offers about six hours of play time."

Greg Zeschuk also gave a statement on why they believe the game will "feel a bit different on the PS3." His full statement goes:

"The most important thing is that the PlayStation 3 is based on a completely different architecture. Visually it can come to some changes. In particular, the storage and distribution of the graphics chip differ dramatically. We will not again unleash the discussion, which has the two platforms for more power, since we can achieve our objectives on both platforms.

If you develop games that you want to make accessible the broadest possible mass, and exactly this opportunity is offered to us. I think the game will feel a bit different on the PS3. Just by the controller, it will play differently."

Mass Effect 2 comes out on the PS3 by January next year. We'll be having a dose of these goodies then ourselves.

sounds like the ps3 version of mass effect will make the wait and the catch up all worth it.

Interesting concept that comic. I hope this can allow most of the plots from the original game. I still would've liked a port from the original game but this can do if done right.

Since the first game was published by Microsoft, that's probably never going to happen. The interactive comic is a suitable method to deliver many of the important decisions in Mass1, though, I think some of the choices will loose their sense of immediacy from not being a part of "gameplay".

I Love you Bioware.

Maybe they are planning move support for aiming? That would be just perfect!

But I hope that with "different controller" they don't intend to use just sixaxis stuff on the game... usually just turns gameplay worse (grenade aiming on the first uncharted game brings bad memories). Or at least, give us the option to play it like the 360 version, as that's the only real difference between the controllers (and doesn't bring any advantage to the ps3 IMHO).

So PS3 users will practically get all the DLC for free. I should be offended but I technically don't own the game.

They'll get the more important stuff (narrative driven) sure, but they'll still have to pay for the non-essentials (extra costumes and weapons) like everyone else.

Also, isn't there supposed to be at least one more major piece of DLC for Mass2? Like, one more that links into Mass3 the way that Shadow Broker did?
