If they announced they will give away an HD TV I would be interested but as it is I am not going to pay out for a TV that shows films and games okay but shows a normal TV picture BADLY !! its just not worth it.

What, lmao!

Chicken little will probably look pretty sweet. Nothing else appeals to me but good to see more Blu Ray titles.

Blu Ray FTW!

» I love Blu-Ray

It is the greatest thing since Betamax. and we all love our betamax... im glad sony decided to gamble the playstation name on a drm infested format. Sony has had an awesome track record for media formats... I mean we all love our UMD movies, Atrac3 and atrac 3 plus, Minidisc. Dat, Memory stick, memorystick duo. I mean almost 50 people have mindisc players.. i think a couple retarded people bought umd movies. and deaf people seem to like atrac3plus.

Ya anyways, there are more than 3-4 times as many HDDVD titles coming out for Blu-Ray this year. It has twice the big studio backing and holds more data. What do you expect?

And for those idiots that still think Porn will sway the public.....Porn is also on Blu-Ray if you've been keeping up with the news. It's just not official...

» HAHAHAHA

Your sarcasm is killing me. But just admit it Sony got it right this time. This aint another betamax. And this is coming from someone who actually bought a minidisk player, hey i thought it was gonna catch on. It was a well calculated gamble they made by including the blu-ray player into the PS3. And to #1, your a moron. Get a HDTV then talk. Its not that it shows regular tv like crap (while its not the best picture) but compared to the HD channels they look like crap. And most channels are on HD anyone: all of the regular broadcast channels, the preiums like HBO, starz, showtime, ESPN (Which is huge if you have something between your legs). And trust me... IT IS WORTH IT!!!

» Not true

It depends on the HDTV you buy. Panasonic's Plasma HDTV's show standard 480i tele alot better than other HDTV's. I could care less about SD anymore. Even though I have 200 channels....90% of the time I only watch the HD channels. It is THAT big of a diff. And Blu-ray movies look 2-3 times as good as HD broadcasts. I "only" have a 50" with 1366x768 resolution. I can only imagine how good Blu-ray must look at 1920x1080p

Panny's Plasma's are the best out there. The only other Plasma that routinely rates as high as a Panny is Pioneer. Pioneer's Plasma's are on average 6-1000 more per TV.

Trust me....it is worth it. Every time a friend comes over and sees my Plasma for the first time with an HD broadcast....they are simply floored. Even women, who generally do not care about "resolution" are giddy over it.

Hope this helps anyone on the fence.

If anyone has other questions....please feel free to ask. I will do my best to answer them.

» Gawsh....yer funnie

It is funny how noone seems to know that Sony's other formats have done very well.

DVD...Sony

CD....Sony

Don't believe me? Look it up for yourself.

Need I say more

If you read carefully the only formats that sony has created that were successful were the ones they made with cooperation from other companies to create a standard..everytime they tried to do their own format it failed spectacularly.

» So...

You just counter-argued your own comment. Nice. So I guess blu-ray format has nothing to worry about eh. +)

» hey r kelly nubcake

blu-ray isn't sony's format. It's made by sony and other companies. You pretty much just said blu-ray wins.

What about Casino Royale, thats has to be coming out soon right?

by liar - 2007-02-09 10:21
» let me guess.

you bought an xbox 360 because you had the same clear grasp of the facts about consoles as you did about blu-ray.

Hilarious..just hilarious. I see a darwin award in your future. Take foot..insert in mouth..lose any credibility. Win the debate for the opposition by simply opening your mouth. Impressive...not sure I've seen something quite like that before. Remarkable really.

Weren't you the one calling people retards?

LOL.

After getting the PS3 we decided to get a new HD t.v. Our old 43" Hitachi was only 1080i and about 5 years old. After doing my homework I ended up getting the Sony SXRD 60" with 1080p inputs. Part of the decision was related to the fabulous quality of the PS3 and of course those 1080p inputs. The samsung was in the running until I learned about the wobulator and moving parts issues. DPL aren't really 1080 - they "cheat" by doubling up at a very high speed.

Well I can confirm it's a WOW factor. Ridge Racer at 1920 x 1080 in progressive scan is spectacular and GTHD is quite frankly unbelievable..my stomach goes missing when you go over that first ridge..your eyes are literally fooled into it being real. Digital at 1080p is something else. They are like different games compared to the previous t.v. where my stomach had no problem.

Agree that Blu-ray is much much better than our HD satellite. Can't stand watching SD t.v. anymore either.

The video via digital HDMI connections has finally caught up to the great 5.1 digital sound we've had all these years. Didn't realize how much of mismatch there has been all these years until upgrading the video to and watching MI:3 in full blu-ray glory. WOW.

Same thing here, wife has always yawned about this kind of stuff - but even she was OMG i can't believe the difference. She's hooked.

The SXRD is a very very nice t.v. btw - as all the reviewers have pointed out. In terms of value I couldn't justify significantly more money for a plasma with a smaller screen.

60" is fantastic...bigger is better.

» ya

that one has already been announced for march. the ones they listed are NEW extra additions to the releases for this year +)

by TjBd - 2007-02-09 14:38
» and don't forget the 3.5" floppy

Sony also developed the 3.5" floppy, which had a fairly healthy lifespan, but damn if it wasn't so proprietary

Also, you're lack of knowledge about Minidisc is disappointing. Did you know Sony last year released one of the best personal use portable recording devices available to the average consumer (model #RH1)? It uses minidiscs. For amateur field recording or concert taping, its hard to find a better unit. Minidiscs were introduced in 1991; for new equipment to still be manufactured in 2006, that's not too bad for a failed product.

sony was also part of the group that created HDMI, hence it is included in the PS3

I stick by what I said (Oh and by the way I have an expensive HD TV as well only 32inch mind) HDTV is great for films and games but for NORMAL TV terrestrial/freeview/satellite (which will be here for years to come as the standard) the picture is crap, and the closer you get to the screen the worse (blockier)it gets.

At the moment and for the next few years the only people who should get HDTV are game and HD Video owners make sure you keep your normal TV when it comes to viewing standard TV progs though.

HDTV is just an expensive large monitor until standard TV changes.

Anyway go into your local store and ask to see a NORMAL TV program (not satellite HD etc) on it and see if im right or not.

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-02-12 00:49
» never heard of these

These movies suck, as do most of the blu ray releases so far. I think that's the most importatnt thing to consider, and the movies released so far really don't gain much entertainment value by going to HD.

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-02-12 05:29
» blu ray is awesome!

Sony wasn't the only company behind blu ray, but easily the biggest one. The list of manufacturers supporting blu ray is just companies that will use it in their products, not the companies responsible for the technology.

Sony is the reason there is blu ray, and the reason there's 2 f*cking movie formats again. Toshiba and the HD-DVD backers were trying to get a unified movie format deal with sony for some time, but sony has to do their own thing and their ego prevents them from thinking any product they release will be a failure.

Who wants 2 seperate movie formats? NOBODY. Thanks sony for letting consumers deal with your arrogant BS. That's why I'm waiting for a HD movie player. I hope HD-DVD wins so $ony will quit doing this s*it with constant new media format releases.

These above comments prove that sony can make great profits by going after the uneducated rich consumer market.

January is the only month where blu ray sales exceeded HD-DVD sales. That doesn't stop the flow of BS, though. People probably bought a PS3 and realized there's no good games for it. Now they are thinking, "maybe I can at least watch a HD movie since it's not good for anything else."

Sad, very sad way to do business $ony.

Blu-ray is amazing...I have bought quite a few movies actually. I'm watching on a 60" Sony XBR2 and it looks wonderful. Just waiting for Pirates 2 and Lord of the Rings...
