Major PS3 firmware update coming in March?

Wikipedia says so!

We don't usually go through Wikipedia entries about the latest consoles, but after this, we might just start keeping tabs from now on. As one of our readers has pointed out, the Wikipedia entry for the PS3 contains a note which says that a "a major update of the PS3 firmware is planned for March 2007, to coincide with the planned European launch".

Furthermore, the features of this upcoming PS3 firmware are listed down:
  • Enhanced XMB multi-tasking capabilities.
  • Additional photo album features.
  • Auto-resume for downloads from the PlayStation Store
  • Additional XMB display options.
  • Additional Remote Play functionality.
So do we take Wikipedia's word for it, or was the entry just edited to give out false hopes? We'll see once March comes around.

Thanks to nameistaken1 for the tip!

» Don't you know who writes whats on wikipedia?

This is old, not entirely official news. I think an exec might have said it, but there wasn't a press release or anything.

» Even if...

this is true, when are we gonna see better upscaling on PS1 and PS2 backwards computability?? That should be one of Sony's numero uno priorities, besides some kickass games.

Though I do trust Wikipedia as a whole, this is not confirmed and Wikipedia is free to edit by anyone so this only proves someone believed a rumor.
