Major fallout: Bethesda says no for now to Fallout 3 PS3 Post-Ending Play

Fallout 3 - Image 1I don't know if this is the weekend lull sending my brain into atrophy, but I seem to be having a hard time grasping why developers and publishers are deciding the way they do with their games.

Earlier, we got word on Sega not having any plans of bringing Yakuza 3 to the West. Now, we have Bethesda not planning to make post-ending play possible for Fallout 3 (also on Xbox 360, PC) on the PS3. What's up, guys?

As it stands, PS3 players only have until the ending of the game to do all their explorations. If you have any unfinished side quests that you would like to revisit to finish, the only way you can do that would be to boot an old save. Thing is, Bethesda Softworks is sending out a new DLC for both the Xbox 360 and PC platforms that will allow them to play on even after the credits are done rolling.

MTV Multiplayer got in touch with executive producer Todd Howard, and this is what he simply had to say about the possibility of having a post-ending adventure for Fallout 3 PS3: "Not at this time, no."

Again, I am left baffled. What do you guys think? Could Microsoft have somehow bought off this DLC as another "exclusive"?

Then I am no longer going to buy this game or any other from this developer till they stop treating PS3 owners like second class citizens.

I did the same to Valve after their Half Life 2 BS

Dude. Who the ***** cares. Play the game, end it, move on. Fallout 3 is one of the most tremendous games out there. Don't get all pissy about this dlc bull*****. Buy a game. Play a game. Move on. There's abour only a billion other games out there.

I cannot believe this new, what a let down. Well I live about 5 minutes away from their offices and i have sent an email and a regular letter. I feel very strongly about this.

I am a Playstation 3 owner along with my son and we both brought a copy of Fallout 3 for our systems. And in my view, Fallout 3 “is” the best game I have ever played. I have spent many many hours playing the game and enjoying it to its fullest. All aspects of the game are outstanding, from the art work to the rolling credits. Both I and my son have always enjoyed games from you, and I would not hesitate to recommend your software to my friends and family. But after reading the news that you will only be releasing the DLC for the Xbox 360 and the PC versions is unacceptable.

We pay good money for the game on the PS3 the same the 360 and PC, but for some reason the PS3 community gets left out. I am no stranger to computer or console based software, and I see no limitations in releasing the DLC for the Playstation 3. I feel so strongly about this issue that I am selling both my copies of the game to Gamestop and buying something else. I know that I am only one voice, but in this day and age that one voice should count. I am very disappointed in the way Bethesda has dealt with this issue. I would say that I am a valued customer, but I will not be buying anymore software form you.

» Baffles me too

In all honesty if you have at least a decent PC you should be playing these games on there, since Valve and Bethesda games are a million times better on PC, but it is still ridiculous how much they give PS3-only owners the shaft.

I'm going to assume it's because these devs are PC-oriented and have been for their entire existences, and if you know how to make PC games they are easy to put on 360. This is the case with Valve at least, Bethesda idk. If they can make the game for PS3, why not the DLC

Hate Beth all you want but please don't hate on Valve too much. They are an amazing dev, one of the best ever, and you have to realize where they're coming from. Valve gets most of its revenue from PC games and are very good at making them, so they can easily port to 360 because its the same general environment. To make PS3 games they would need to either retrain or hire another staff to do so, along with buying all the equipment required. To Valve that is not worth the money PS3 games would generate, so they don't bother.

Why don't hate valve? I don't seem them making any other games beside FPS. The only thing that Valve is doing is just making expansion of their previous games. Left 4 Dead doesn't even feel like a real game.

» I hate to say it, but just get over it

As a former Xbox 1 owner and a current PS3 owner, this is what comes with owning the third most popular console this gen.

All the emails and online petitions in the world are not gonna change the fact that the 360 is the most profitable console for third party developers this gen.

You people are all idiots. A bunch of retarded idiots might I add.

You think dlc is free? It's probably going to be $14.99 at least. I am not getting the dlc and I am not PAYING for it.

Bethesda made a game. I payed for the GAME ONLY. I played the game. I loved it. I moved on to better things. I don't get dlc I say ***** it and spend my money on better things.

So go ahead, whine like a bunch of kindergartners a company can't suck more money out of you using something that should already have been included in the game anyway for the initial price of $59.99. So basically you're all whining about a company ripping off Xbox and PC but not the PS3.

Dumbasses.

» For the Fail

In my opinion, the lack of DLC for the Playstation on many games, like GTA4, and all the exclusive titles that used to be only exclusive to the PS makes me feel like I've payed way too much for way too little. Sony are basically letting Microsoft buy all of these titles because they think their ***** dont stink, thinking the console itself is the reason for people to buy it.

Microsoft just seems way too desperate, seems like that geek kid at school doing your homework so you'll be his friend. I've always hated both companies, but I like the playstation for a lot of reasons, and Sony better get their heads out of their asses and get some of these games/dlc.

Also, Bethesda will eventually release the DLC to PS3 because when the owners eventually complete the game, it'll make them think twice about buying the sequel. (very very bad ending..).

wrong. Both Ubisoft and Take-Two make the most profit from the Playstation 3. Xbox 360 is on the second place, Wii on third.

Here are the sources if you don't believe me:

So it's not always this way. I agree that it mostly is the case, though.

» I wanted to support Bethesda...I really did....

I played this game on pc and 360 til the end on both consoles. The PC is waaaaaay better. I was going to buy it for ps3 (didn't buy it for other systems) but I heard it was the worst version. Supposedly, it's glitchier and slower on ps3, though it does look slightly better on the ps3 than the 360.

The other day I tried to play Oblivion on my ps3 again after not playing it for a year or so and was shocked at how many times it slows down and/or pauses constantly.

Yes it sucks that ps3 owners wont be getting an extended version or expansion packs like everyone else but video games, just like everything else, is all about politics nowadays. Whoever pays the most under the table wins. In this case, it seems as though Microsoft is up to their sneaky little way again, paying off companies to keep their console on top.

In reality, I dont know one person in their right mind who would pay for a fallout, oblivion, or gta expansion for the 360. They are overpriced and usually just barely add to the experience.

I say stick to pc gaming for the Bethesda franchise like Master Chef said earlier. People make so many different mods that enhance the game in ways Bethesda couldn't dream if they tried. Though it does suck that we wont be seeing any gta expansion packs for the ps3 either.

Microsoft has always had a reputation of playing dirty and it's too bad because in this case, they are single handedly destroying the future of video games......

» I hate the exclusivity war

I'm almost to the point to where I'll only buy Playstation 3 exclusives. Motorstorm, Killzone, Resistance, LBP, MGS4, etc. until this BS stops with 3rd party developers. I hate it when I want to buy a game and then I find out that dlc is exclusive to another platform. Sorry developers, you don't deserve my money.

» I have to agree I'm pretty mad about this

I only had to comment because bethesda did this to me before. I had borrowed my wife's cousins Oblivion for the 360-liked it well enough that I bought the first three expansions for it (horse armor=worthless, Wizards tower=Awsome, Mehruns? Razor=okay) When it came time to buy my own, I was going to buy the ps3 version for the better graphics-only to find out that if you buy the GOTY Edition you got the knights of the nine & the other one (can't think of it now)And there WERE NO OTHER EXPANSIONS FOR IT! I was willing to plunk down the money again (stupid, I know-wouldn't have bought the horse armor again though;p) I could have even bought the ps3 version for $5 bucks at my local rental place (in fact, I've gotten a few ps3 games from there $5 to $15 bucks) So I can believe that Bethesda does this, I just don't know why they would. I thought game developers just developed in the same environment, and Porting them to other system was pretty easy, or was that just Square-Enix & their White Engine? I can't remember anymore. And yeah, my wife's had several game breaking glitches that piss her off in the ps3 version of fallout.

All of you freaking out over a video game... It's not that big of a deal. Just because the software company Bethesda decided not give the PS3 DLC at this time, does not give any of you the right to *****. Just chill and wait awhile. Fallout 3 was halfway decent. I've played better games though. I think I can stand to not have this extra side mission crap on my PS3. If I really want it, i'll fire up my PC version and play it...but probably won't. Oh yea...for those of you saying "Fallout was tremendous," or that it was the "best everz" really need to check out some other games. The setting and storyline behind the game weren't really that solid. It's a linear RPG. Those kinds of games don't account for much. It most definately didn't have pretty graphics (although, my opinion is baised because I play crysis so excuse it for now) and the control scheme was just OK. I can see why it got high ratings, but it's not perfect. It was too quick to end. Not a blockbuster in my book.

Overall, I'd love to see them bring the extra content of any game to the console. The downside to it though is that you have to pay for most extra released content. This is wrong. I shouldn't have to pay for the content they didn't have time to release. It's a one price fits all scenario. If I buy the game, I should be given all the updates and upgrades that follow because I am a customer. They aren't treating us like customers. They treat us like cash crops, or citizens paying taxes. "He you go, here is a place to live...it's yours now...but we need you to pay us taxes if you want all the extras." Sound familiar?

by StingBlah - 2009-01-26 08:27
» no, they are depriving ps3 owners

of the opportunity to buy it. If you don't want to pay that much for it, well then you can choose not to. But what if someone is obsessed with fallout 3 and wants to get this expansion? Well that person is now screwed. And its not about Bethesda, its about all those companies that screw over ps3 owners. I say boycott em. THe ps3 has enough exclusives to keep one occupied forever anyway. Heck, I only own MGS4, LBP, and Warhawk, and have been gamin for a while on them.
