MAG: Massive Action Game - Image 1

A lot of people certainly perked up in their seats when Sony announced their new "Massive Action Game" for the PS3, MAG, at their recently-concluded E3 2008 keynote.

For those of you who missed this bit of news, MAG, as it is aptly called, promises to bring the meaning of HUGE to an entirely new level. That's because the said game will have a whopping 256 players divided into teams of eight to fight free-for-all in one humongous map.

There have been some concerns raised, though, given such a large quantity of players having a go at each other all in one time. Many of them revolve around lags and exactly just how soon can you enjoy the game when you need to look for 255 people more to play with or against you.

In response, Sony has reassured fans via its blog that although it is massive, it is an action shooter at its core.

You can run around and shoot enemies, throw grenades, and drive vehicles just like any other shooter except with MAG you'll do it with up to 255 players. The team at Zipper was one of the pioneers of online gaming on consoles with SOCOM franchise and they've used this knowledge to create a brand new server architecture to make an original game like MAG possible.

Alright, we'll have to trust Zipper Interactive's experience with online gaming, then. I mean, SOCOM really is street cred right there. Anyway, the team cannot as of yet reveal more details and information pertaining to the game. But they do have an in-game screenshot for us to look at in the meantime. This is the first of them all, and we say it does leave a good impression.

It's gonna be a bloodbath.

you can't always have what you want... dude, we are getting 256 people online, and you care about the graphics?. Seriously i don't have a problem witht the graphics as long as the game experience is good/great.

» Kind of an uneducated post...

Do you know anything aboout this game? If it's going to have 256 players all running around with particle effects going off everywhere, than those graphics are pretty spectacular for this kind of feat.

» Looks okay

Looks okay. But kinda small to tell.

Regardless... 256 players at once. GOD, VOICE CHAT WILL BE CHAOS!

But this is Zipper, they'll make it work. I'm sure they'll make it to where only people in the same squad can talk to each other. And squad commanders can talk to other sqaud commanders, but not the other squad commanders' squads.

That would be awesome.

» Are you kidding me?..

Judging by your post I can't take you seriously.. I'm looking at the same exact picture you are and it looks damn good to me. I'm pretty harsh on my graphics rating and this looks pretty good in my opinion. For 256 players online I don't think we would get Killzone 2 type graphics so this really isn't a big deal..

And what the hell is wrong with you? Your bashing the game saying it "SUCKS BALLZ" (yet you've only seen 1 screenshot) and then you say "but u shouldn't judge on screenshots", talk about a major contradiction...

They showed footage of it at E3, just download the Sony PressConf on PlayStation Store to see it.

In the video it looks great! I hope there will be a demo.

I think thats 256 players per room max. There are 255 other players + yourself + 256. Atleast thats what I got out of it.
