MAG Massive Action Game - Image 1

Zipper has abandoned the third-person perspective ship for the highly-anticipated MAG Massive Action Game title. Their new choice of perspectival weapon: FPS. This was the information revealed in the latest Game Informer issue on the game.

"We looked at the number of different camera options for the game, and settled on FPS primarily  because of the scale of MAG," Andy Bodewin of Zipper Interactive remarked.

Some of our previous games were third-person, and it was well suited to [managing] teammates and AI quadrates as well. But for a game of this size we really wanted to make it the most immersive and the most intense large-scale game that we could. There's really no better way to do that than to sink you right into the action and look at things through a first-person perspective.

This sure sounds like a very welcomed treat, especially for FPS fans. We'll keep you posted on more details on MAG as they come.

Hmmm

I would've preferred if it were a TPS. Still good nonetheless.

NOOOOOO!!

Ugh... guess I'm stuck with SOCOM Confrontation for much longer than I thought.

argh...

And bang goes any interest I had in this game. If anything I find first person LESS immersive. I never feel like I'm actually there and I find my view extremely restrictive (far more than real life), whereas least in third I have a greater sense of my character actually being there (helps that I know exactly where his feet are since you can't 'feel' them in a game) and I can see a better view. Really disappointed in this as I was starting to like what I saw in earlier pics. Good luck trying to stand out amongst the masses of other FPS games. I'm gonna spend my money elsewhere thanks.

I'm with you two

Every single shooter game maker should have the option for 1st, 3rd and over the shoulder points of view within their games. I HATE FPS's and will be passing on this even though it looks awesome. Thanks Zipper for screwing your loyal fans with this one.

...

im going to have to agree with feeling more imerssed while in 3rd person. i love playing warhawk, but resistance 2 bn fps i feel i have no feet, i feel smaller and shorter and have to look down occasionally to jump over *****. but i think games should allow the choice of 1st, 3rd or over the shoulder, im sure it wouldnt take that much more time to develop

what?!

they're just now deciding this? When is this game going to be released exactly?
by Xeinix - 2009-04-12 12:29:47
Jeez...

You don't even know that much about the game and you guys are already bashing it? Who said they have to make it an TPS and that they're "screwing" their fanbase. Hold on, play the game and then bash it if you hate it. Also @NathanDrake it's going to be totally different from other Fps's... It a MMO FPS for cryin' out loud. Not too many of those.

I dont know.

The idea at first has me kind of upset cuz Im a fan of the third person stuff zipper has done... but think they could prob pull it off with FP no problem.
by Tydeus - 2009-04-13 11:06:03
That's me out.

No FPS for me. FPS has to be the worst choice for "immersive". I wouldn't even try to play this.. FPS is the same all around, theres nothing different in any of the FPS games I've played so what makes them think otherwise? Ah well, theres always other games.
