Valve's The Orange Box was one of 2007's best gaming events, offering up a trifecta of great games for fans to enjoy. Particularly wonderful was the PC's version of Team Fortress 2 (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) which has received updates and new content every so often to keep the quality of gaming at optimum levels.

For the most part, this has worked well for Valve and its PC fans. However, a clamor has been steadily growing from Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 fans who want to see improvements on their own turf as as well.

Fortunately, Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi was on hand recently to respond to this issue. He said that console users need not worry because the cavalry is on its way. At least, that is, for the Xbox 360 side.

"What we've been waiting for is until we had a critical mass of new content to put out," said Lombardi to Shacknews. "So we feel like we're kind of there now."

"We'll probably be making some announcements pretty soon on what will happen with the 360 stuff," he added, but immediately broke some troubling news for the PS3. "I don't know that - unfortunately I don't know that any of that will make it to the PS3."

Going into specifics, Lombardi said that Valve intends to bring the Goldrush update and some new achievements to the Xbox 360 for Team Fortress 2. For the PS3, some moves may be undertaken with its developer EA UK to try and see what could be done. We'll keep you posted for more.

If Valve would actually attempt to develop on PS3 for themselves, this problem wouldn't exist, now would it? Gabe had to go be a big baby and give up after 2 seconds of trying to play with the Cell and PS3's architecture, instead of actually trying. What do you expect from a company that was created from ex-Microsoft employees?

That isn't the reason at all. You may think Gabe is the big chief that makes all the decisions at valve, but its a group effort and the team didn't want to dive into a foreign architecture, seeing as they already had enough on their plate. Valve is a small company making huge games. They have had the engine ready for the xbox from way back when they first released Half-Life 2. It makes sense.

With all the time and resources they had, it's no excuse. Gabe said "everyone will hate" the PS3's architecture, which is far from true. Many developers are embracing it after they actually learn it. They're just lazy. They won't get my respect back until they start developing their own games rather than outsourcing them to other devs.

PS3 will have problems on the long run.

GTA4 is the first problem and Rockstar says it's not the game, its the console so yeah PS3 and 360 will both have problems. Just too early for the PS3
