This one's a solid confirmation. Troy Petersen, Global Product Marketing Manager for Gaming Products of Logitech, have confirmed firm and square that they are indeed coming up with a PS3 Blu-ray controller. First uncovered by Engadget yesterday, seems like there is now no other way to go but admit guilt.

Logitech Harmony PS3 Blu-ray controller - Image 1

And what a pleasurable guilt this one is. The gadget will be the new Logitech Harmony PS3 Blu-ray control, and it will reportedly be able to turn your PS3 on and off, among other things. Giving the floor to Petersen:

We can't give you all the details just yet, but we can say that this adapter will, when used with any Harmony remote, give you complete control of your movie-watching experience on PS3. It will also turn the PS3 on and off - and allow you to set up your Harmony activities to include the PS3 just as you would any other device. You also won't need to dedicate any of your valuable USB ports to get that control.

Sounds promising, eh? And perfect for those who bought the PS3 for their Blu-ray movie needs. Keep it posted here, we'll be updating you on this one.

» hmm

i just dont see why you would need anything other than sony's controllers

by Darthsappy23 - 2009-03-20 13:00
» 2nd that

its sound like a waste of money to me. i have 2 sixaxis, a dualshock 3 and a bluray remote and those do the trick for me. unless of course they sell it cheaper than the official controllers/remotes. but i like official stuff

» Yeah..

..i have the Sony remote as well, does everything the Logitec one is said to do, and possibly more. I can also use it for PlayTV with the handy "button map sticker thing" that goes on the remote...i've never been a fan of 3rd party peripherals anyway :-D

» Logitech is awesome...

but... isn't the harmony remote like $150? Why would I shell out $150 for the remote, then whatever they want for this box just to watch movies and turn on my PS3 .... which I can do with my pack in Sixaxis? You know, that little controller, blue tooth (wireless).

If someone's got a big ol audio/video phile setup and controls everything with their Logitech Harmony Remote then this product is great for them.

Other than that tho, I don't see it being for anyone else.

» Absolutely correct

All the comments above me are correct. If you already have your controller/PS3 remote, and you use it, this is not the article/device for you.

For us harmony users, that have our entire A/V setup (and household appliances) all linked to the one remote, this is exactly what we have been waiting for. Now our ps3 will be controlled with our harmony devices as well (finally!)

Can't wait to see which remotes are supported, hopefully (as the article suggests) ALL of them are! Keep up the good work, Logitech!

» Yeah Harmany remotes are great

IDK about $200 great, which is what some of them cost, but Harmony remotes come with a CD you put in your PC, install the software, then hook up your remote thru USB. You tell it which make and model number your TV, AV system, DVD player, etc are and it puts them on the remote

So this if for people who have like 5 remotes and want them all on one. This will control your PS3, TV, AV system, cable box, etc all on one remote, and you can pretty much throw the others away

» Well

It's just another option some people would want to try. You have to remember some of us are techies so, we love these type of stuff. You don't have to use it. But I wouldn't mind seeing what this could do. :)

» Exactly

the real universal remote

by xche78x - 2009-03-21 22:31
» i think

they just converted the pocket size logitech PC wireless keyboard already available and added some functions for it to be PS3 compatible.

hence this will be a PS3 Bluetooth Portable Keyboard / Remote Combo.

now if they will include all Dual Shock 3 capability and comfort in it, i will definitely buy 1 for 50 bucks.

by GUNBEHINDTHESUN - 2009-03-22 06:01
» But...

...can you play games with it? I know the PS3 remote lets you play games but the ergonomics for most games are not good. Will the remote be able to replace the controller?

by Master Chef - 2009-03-22 07:59
» lol of course not

Harmony remotes do not have two thumbsticks So you won't get very far

BTW if you follow the link at the bottom, you will see it is just a Blutooth adapter that lets you use your existing Harmony remote, if you have one. Logitech is not releasing an entire remote just for PS3. The QJ article is very misleading

by ISOHaven - 2009-03-24 05:01
» WTF!?!?!?!?!

Why would you think that?

"when used with any Harmony remote, give you complete control"

What part of that tells you it's a remake of their existing keyboard? This is an ADAPTER that will allow all us existing Harmony remote owners to use our EXISTING remotes with the PS3.

Seems to me it's an IR to BT bridge. Just put this device in plan sight of your EXISTING remote and you are good to go.

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

Duh! How many hundreds of thousands of people own a Harmony remote? NO! They do not all cost $150. So as it stands, my remote controls everything but the PS3. So I have to have two remotes in my living room. With the purchase of this ONE device I'll be able to finally just have ONE remote laying around next to me. No messing with a controller or PS3 remote. No going back and forth between remotes for controlling a movie on the PS3 and sound on the amp.

This is going to be a hot item for harmony and PS3 owners!!!

Who said everyone should run out and buy a Harmoney remote and this new item for their PS3? I don't see that anywhere on this page.

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

Agreed, Mabie didn't understand this news piece very well.
