LittleBigPlanet patch v1.01 goes live: song's still there, but what about the lyrics?

LittleBigPlanet - Image 1

For those who've broken the LittleBigPlanet street date, the very first patch is now available. LBP v1.01 is set to "rectify" the Qur'an references in one of the songs - which is strange because, if all it needed was a patch from Media Molecule, then why did Sony have to recall the discs?

Oh. Right. Here's your answer: it's because Sony said that "the right thing to do for quality and support of people with no on-line was to replace existing disks." We're assuming that this patch is being prepared to be built right onto the disc, to be fair to those people who can't download the patch.

Here's something interesting though: the actual "song" which caused the whole controversy is still included in the game after it being patch, and right now, sources state that the v1.01 patch has either "removed, censored, or looped around" the offensive lyrics.

great :)

but that man, ehh, from america who's muslim, said that they acctually didn't need to take out the games, but i guess it was for safety's sake :) (wonder who will freak this time... talking about QJ-members of course)

WTF!?!?!?!?!

"then why did Sony have to recall the discs?" Think about it for at least 1 second. Not everyone has INTERNET. Not everyone has INTERNET hooked up to their PS3. The game does not require internet access. You can play locally. Thus, they would never get the update.

third.

!! I'm deeply offended by the fact that this patch removes only part of the song, and not the whole thing!

...

Surely, it must have been more economical to produce a data CD with an installable patch, and distribute these to retailers, requesting them to be stuck onto the LBP boxes!
by TracerTong - 2008-10-22 10:51:24
Good idea, but...

That would mean that the buyer would have to manually apply the patch. Which they may or may not do, also, they could resell the 'bad' disc on...

We think alike?

Uh, yeah... Thanks for repeating what I just said in the second paragraph of the article. ^_^ I upped you tho. I have a source link. Hehe! :p Cheers, ISOHaven! ^_^V

mm

mmm if you being serious ill tell you now, that you can go ***** yourself no doubt sony paid moeny to have the right to use that song, nothing else is offensive in it, so right now your just wanting to punish sony even more and il have no problem telling you once more to go and *****ing play the violin on your wrist because society dont need morny yappy scum like you

@ Two above

TracerTong: Right. The purpose of the patch in the first place is to not offend any Muslims with the lyrics, so offended Muslims WOULD apply the patch, bright spark! I don't give a shiny *****e about the lyrics, so I wouldn't apply it. LOL @ the 'bad' disc. Adain Muslim's would ask if it includes the 'offensive' material patch, surely? Again, if it didn't, they wouldn't buy it... surely? Muslims can think you know? emcp: Clever little guy? Rrrrrrright. That comment really didn't make any points at all!

WTF!?!?!?!?!

DOH! I stopped reading there. I failed.
by Uberoth - 2008-10-22 11:49:14
Whole thing is a publicity stunt...

When they found out that some of the game's content could be deemed offensive they make as much fuss as they can to get the media's attention, this way people who would've never heard of this game see it on the news, check it out on Youtube, and then go out and buy it.
by ISOHaven - 2008-10-22 11:53:26
WTF!?!?!?!?!

That sounds like a good idea to me BUT people would just cry like babies about how Sony can't fix their own problems and they leave it up to users to manually apply patches...blah blah blah. Plus, that doesn't take into account all the original "bad" copies that are then sold after the initial purchaser. So that leaves a pretty big hole.
by Matt-N - 2008-10-22 12:02:11
@ ISOHaven

True, true, true. However, a recall doesn't take people like you into account: people who managed to get their lucky little hands on the game early!!! Hope you're enjoying it, while I've been forced to play COD4 for yet another week!

Absolutely true. Even my mum said the other day "Matt, have you heard of a game called Little Big World" lol. Bless her!

Can I just say?

Firstly I am a Muslim, secondly the fact that you are dying over a game is just ridiculous and shows how much a geek you are. End of

@ Neo-Tech

You're a Muslim? That's super! Anyway, who is that aimed at? I'm certainly not 'dying over the game'! Well, I might be without realising, as I don't really understand the meaning of it!!!
by hairycanary2 - 2008-10-22 13:32:34
@ Neo-Tech

" the fact that you are dying over a game is just ridiculous ". What facts? Nobody cares what you are. Nobody is dieing . (bacause of the game) (and well not everyone is suicidal). You need to stop pretending to be the victim . We all know you guys got offended but get over it . The song is still there, so just chill the ***** off. If you "die" for a game you are nothing short of a "geek", posting and expressing people's feeling is our rights. What, are you going to make us feel bad just because we post?
by FreePlay - 2008-10-22 15:00:01
Except

THEY DID NOT RECALL THE DISCS. Every store I've gone to has said they just changed the release date. The discs are all sitting in the back of the store. Gamestop, Target, Wal-mart, Circuit City, Best Buy - the games are all STILL THERE! It's complete BS.
by dwebs - 2008-10-22 21:38:06
wrong

Freeplay, your wrong. there was a recall, but most companies havn't sent back their copies. i work at a gamestop, i should know this sort of thing
by Alcantara617 - 2008-10-22 22:55:11
@ FreePlay

as much as i'd like to agree its very wrong, dwebs is right, i work at best buy and we sent back every copy, we still havent gotten the game back in either, so until you work retail, keep your rumours in your head
by StingBlah - 2008-10-23 07:55:30
uhh dude...

it was obviously a joke...i look at this whole situation with LBP as a joke.
by ISOHaven - 2008-10-23 08:34:41
WTF!?!?!?!?!

@StingBlah - He or She isn't capable of understanding such things. "you can go ***** yourself" This is someone who's parents did not love him or her. At least, not enough!
by fatez - 2008-10-23 15:06:13

So the Euro version is patched???? I just tried mine, US version, and DOESNT prompt for any patch.
