A few days ago, Joystiq published an interview with Media Molecule's interface designer Jim Unwin. In it, a handful of details on LittleBigPlanet was revealed, including the amount of content available on the Blu-ray disc, as well as other info on its coming release.

On the subject of on-disc content and playtime. Jim Unwin explains that there will be "50-ish" available right on the disc as soon as you take it out of the box. Of course, it doesn't have to be limited to that, as user-created content is available for download online.

He also reveals that there's going to be some sort of story mode which will link the 50-odd levels in the game and that "the first half of the game is one long tutorial, introducing you to all the gameplay mechanics in the game."

When asked about the length of time it takes to complete the developer-created levels in the game, Unwin says that it takes him around 12 hours to finish. Of course, you have to consider that Unwin is a developer and knows the ins and outs of the game, possibly making those "12 hours", in effect, a speedrun of sorts.

On the subject of offensive content and using the PlayStation Eye. Some of you are probably psyched about getting to upload your own content to share with other people. And do note: using the PlayStation Eye as a means for image capture may only be the start. Unwin says a future patch can incorporate new modes of input.

You own user-created levels will have some "complexity thermometer" - basically a gauge to show how complex you can make your own stages - kinda reminds me of the life gauge of the Creature Creator of Spore.

And when asked about how they will handle user uploads (remember at CES 2008 when Kyle Shubel talked about the possibility of R-rated content?), Unwind said that they'll be using a similar model to SingStar and explained further that:

There'll be user moderation, so people can flag different levels if they find content abusive. [...] We could brick someone's PS3. I mean, that's an extreme example, but we have the ability to do that. Mostly, though, your level will be removed and, if you repeatedly offend, you could get banned from the service.

» yes

If you have a PS Eye connected, you can all up the PS Eye option window at any time while playing. It directly takes pictures and imports it into the game, which you can use for certain designs on the level.
