LittleBigPlanet - Image 1As reported in a previous article, the makers of LittleBigPlanet made a little big gaffe when they included some text from the Qur'an into one of their music tracks. This prompted a delay for the much anticipated game as it was yanked from retail stores and reshipped.

The BBC caught wind of the story and reported on it today. They interviewed Media Molecule who said that they were first alerted to the problem by a Muslim gamer who had been playing in the beta phase.

In an e-mail, he warned that mixing music and words from Islam's most holy text could be considered deeply offensive to his fellow Muslims and he suggested producing a software patch to remove the music.

Although Media Molecule originally intended to only implement quick patch, a consultation with Sony convinced them that a total recall of the game was in order.

The BBC spoke with Manzoor Moghal, from the Muslim Forum think-tank, who explained that words from the Koran should not be set to music because the words are seen to have come directly from God.

He complimented Sony's consideration and decisive action on this matter.

-_- No wonder why I hate religion so much, they take offense to the smallest of things, and they cause so much separation and brain washings in our society.

Not buying the game.

I already canceled my pre-order on the game because of this delay. I'm not going to wait for a censored game and i'm not going to appease Islam. I don't want them pushing their views on me and this is just one way they are trying to do it by taking this out of the game. My money will be going towards other (and better) games now.

Ideed, If people want to be religious, fine! but when it affects other people its a problem

Promoting = offending?!

If anything, muslims should be GLAD that the message of their religion is spread. How can promoting the Koran be offending if spreading the word of Allah is something good? Why the hell should the game be pulled when the song is not offending in any way at all? Not that I speak the language, but it's a pretty good song, actually... So, satire by means of caricature drawings is offensive and Lars Vilks, the artist, should be killed, decapitated and sent to Hell. I can understand that satire is offensive but DAMN, where's the self-irony in Islam? And what's even more strange is that even PROMOTING the message of Allah by including a "praise song" in a game that will sell MILLIONS OF MILLIONS OF MILLIONS OF MILLIONS OF COPIES all over the world - is OFFENSIVE?!??!?!?!?!?? What the hell is wrong with Islam anyway? If satire is bad, promoting is bad, singing muslim songs is bad, spreading the word of Allah is bad, what's next? "Hey, man, I read a thing in the Kora--" "DON'T SAY IT! They'll kill you!!" Honestly!? Don't call me a racist, I just hate stupid people regardless of their religion. Oh, what a pun. Everyone that IS religious is stupid, for reasons like this one.
by jompsp - 2008-10-21 04:32:44
wtf

then why don't they remove games that have women not covered up, and people eating pork, etc?
by Acteon - 2008-10-21 05:24:36
Feh...

It's sad that religious fanatics are so threatened by the outside world that they resort to violence at the smallest provocation. We wouldn't accept such behaviour from a child, I don't see why we should put up with it in adults who use faith as an excuse to commit criminal and inhumane acts. They're brainwashed animals, not people. Sadly, Sony probably did the right thing for Sony, but the wrong thing for the rest of us. Personally I have nothing against any faith, but I don't believe in primitive systems of population control - so long as they leave me alone, they can practice whatever they like. Stupid of the developer to have not considered any of this beforehand though. Are they THAT stupid?

so lets see....

LBP got delayed because of a song with 2 lines of texts from the koran, yet family guy and alot of other movies, videos, and music can use God and jesus christ however they want? lol i guess the world is afraid of muslims while they push christians around... and of course you cant ever plame one group of people for problems, schools force theories into young minds, people get drunk and kill themselfs and/or another person, we have enough drug dealers around to keep rolling in more money from peoples addictions, and of course the teenagers being pregant, it can be anybody doing this and not just a certain religious group, if anything blaim goverment for all the laws and papers they enforce over pritty much anything so then can use for porkbarrel projects.

Wow.. It came from God?

I'm sure God sings once in a while aha. Religion is stupid, but I guess necessary. The Egyptians worshiped a sun god.. I don't know, I'm guessing they hoped it would come back. It goes away, they pray, and it comes back later on! But anyway, yeah, I'm sure God would love to sing every now and then.. take a break from condemning people to Heaven and Hell and purgatory or whatever he does in his spare time.. It's allll in the hipss

Don't give them any ideas, mkay ? Although it does sound, rather, farfetched :P

...

Then you're cutting off your nose to spite your face! Unless you go around with a sign on your head informing the Muslim community that you personally did not appease Islam, you're not going to gain anything from this. Just by the game and enjoy it mate. And if it makes you feel better, wear the above sign with "I set the song as a custom soundtrack"!!!
by Matt-N - 2008-10-21 06:48:25
LOL

Funny :)

Cancel all your preorders...

Why do you think we have a ratings system, why do you think Sony and M$ don't allow AO rated games on their systems. Religous Fanatics will cause a stink and they don't want the bad publicity. They are already pushing their views on you, you just don't know it. Besides it's only a week delay, are we gamers such big babies we can't wait a week. It's not like we don't have enough game to buy this month or next.

....

I See people use HALLELUJAH(praise jah) so many times in movie, show, video games and they don’t censor it(I am not offended by it) people probably don even know what hallelujah means, I didn’t even know what the Koran was. I’m Christian and take my faith seriously, but I’m not going to force my believes on to no one, I have to agree with the first comment, religion does cause problems, ironically, the bible says the same thing about religion.

by DiscoStew592 - 2008-10-22 08:06:20
