Peter Molyneux thinks that the PlayStation 3 has yet to get its own defining games, those triple-A titles that represent the console. The Lionhead boss believes that Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet could have what it takes to be the first one, though.

"Yeah it could be," said Molyneux when asked by VideoGamer if LittleBigPlanet could be the PS3's defining title. "The honest answer is without actually playing it it's very hard to say. But looking at it, as I said, it's something that looks different, it's something that, whenever I speak to anyone who's touched it they always come away really excited and you do get that sense of excitement from that."

We've heard a lot of good things said about LittleBigPlanet, and the game has built up quite a bit of buzz in the gaming community. We'll see if it lives up to expectations when it hits shelves on October 21, which, coincidentally, is also when Molyneux's Xbox 360 exclusive Fable 2 launches.

"stupid" metal gear solid 4 is the first defining title...

» Lionhead boss sucks *****

The "first" defining game? lol. I don't think so. Besides, the beta sucks ass. I was highly disappointed with this game and I will pass on the full version. There are much better titles that have already defined the PS3.

I created a flaming cawk monster.....

LBP will be super cool, but I must say MGS4 has defined PS3, sorry Molyneux....

Really, you go "oh wow!" over so many things in MGS4, I did and I had nothing more then a brief glimpse of past MGS games...yet I still understood the basic overall scheme of things, probably missed out on some fine details though. That in itself is an "oh wow!", not to mention the level of detail in the graphics as well as story and cutscenes....(I still hold that the environmental lighting could be better though, but pure geometry and animations make up for it)

I am also sure if you are a die hard MGS fan, then some of the moments in the game would make you cream....many did for me and I was only trying to put myself into an MGS fans place, knowing as little as I do....

It took awhile but MGS4 is the halo/gears the PS3 was waiting for......RES 2 and KZ2 could be even better (although I put my money on Res 2 being better then KZ2 just because Insomniac has so many games under their belt on PS3)

GTA isn't an exclusive game. It doesn't define the PS3 since it's as, if not more, popular on 360.

» I think

By "define" he meant different, which it says in his quote. MGS4 is an amazing game, but not really "different", seeing as how it's like the 100th game in the series, 4th in the Solid line.

Like if you were naming the games that defined the PS2, you'd say Kingdom Hearts, Jak and Daxter, Devil May Cry, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, and of course GTA (since 3 was so different from 2). Notice how none of those are sequels? Those games were also all fairly different kinds of games, there weren't a thousand others that looked and played like they did.

Those are defining games.

Not really sure what would constitute defining games on the new consoles under those rules, because all of them this year seem to be suffering from sequel-itis. LBP is the most unique game I've seen in a long, long time tho

I think resistance is a defining game for playstation 3 but lbp will be awsome.

Lik SHoT: You just didn't play the game, did you? ;) MGS4 is totally different from graw 3. Seriously, do not speak of things you just don't know.

» was it?

It was not defining in my standards, but of course I'm an old gamer and I've played games since the start of the SNES so... But I ca tell you I was dissappointed with the game. Not saying it was bad, it was really good compared to all the crappy games they make nowadays but I felt it didn't have that awesomeness and attachment that the previous MGS titles had (though can only talk about 1,2 and 3, never got to play the older MGS titles of the series on the master system). MGS4 had good graphics, especially in the cutscenes, and answered many questions abot the story for me, but the gameplay was not the greatgameplay I was used to from the older MGS games.

Anyways I have my hopes for LBP. Looks very unique and promising so I hope it turns out a defining title, because seriously, we haven't gotten a defining and unique title since 2005...
