Let us talk about the Quest Mode in Virtua Fighter 5 from the perspective of one of its developers himself. Murayama, one-fourth of the game design team, shares that "making the Quest Mode was an unexpected surprise." Having seen how well-received the Quest Mode in VF4 Evolution, it was obvious that they were up for some challenge, in terms of raising the bar higher for the next installment.

So, with that in mind, they created the new QM as a more realistic game arcade. The difference with the QM here from Evo's is that you can now visit all the arcades right from the start. Gone is the restricting condition that you'd first have to win a championship in each location before you can go to the various game parlors.

There are also some new VF cabinets in the QM arcades. According to Murayama, these are highly pivotal to the game. See, once you enter the parlors, you are then allowed to fight against any opponent you choose. Really. It doesn't matter if you want to fight against a weaker fighter for a sure-win, or if you want to give yourself that extra challenge by fighting against a much stronger one.

A caveat, though: the player that defeated you will always stay in the same cabinet. So, to progress further throughout the mode, it would be a good idea if you return to that cabinet and try beating that opponent. Just take it as settling some kind of unfinished business.

With up to seven different arcades within the Quest Mode in Virtua Fighter 5, there's definitely no reason for you not to be up on your feet. Game comes out next month, and we're certainly just as excited as Murayama is about it.
