Last Remnant director: Square Enix doesn't have a favorite console, but 360 was "a lot of fun" |
Ó
Square Enix's The Last Remnant (PS3, Xbox 360) director, Hiroshi Takai, was recently interviewed about his time on developing in the 360 platform and he was positively glowing.
He said:
The 360 is an easy platform to make games for. The dev environment and the dev kit and everything they've released, those were really dev friendly, so it was quite a lot of fun to work on the 360 version from a development point of view.
Many in Square Enix seems to share Takai's opinions as Infinite Discovery and next year's Star Ocean, will be Xbox 360 exclusive games. The Last Remnant itself is going to be released first on the 360 on November 20 and will be ported to the PS3 at some unannounced point in time.
Many of you probably already know that Squeenix's big gun, Final Fantasy XIII is also getting the Xbox 360 treatment, breaking the PlayStation-exclusive tradition since Final Fantasy VII.
Takai was quick to add that Square Enix currently has "no particular favorite platform," reinforcing the company's commitment to multi-platform development. However, with Square Enix's recent behavior, I think Sony's really needs to start stepping up dev support on its end unless they want to see Final Fantasy XIV as a 360 exclusive.

sony MUST to do something about this or else all the devs will move on to the 360.
coz devs now are being lazy and all they think about now is money.
Hey at least their making a PC version listed on SE's site :)
acutally ffxi was the first to break the tradition, it may not be a traditional ff, but it's still part of the series. Also, star ocean is being dev'ed by tri-ace, not SE, you should really use facts instead of speculation when you write your articles
When lots of small scaled games were cancelled for the ps3 during the very early development cycles due to non dev friendly development environment of the Cell processor....Sony should have perked up and listened then and there.
As always, all they did was say "if you wanna leave then leave, our system is GOD" and kept pushing and pushing and pushing it in the faces of developers. And now, you can see the results. Their blatant lobbying is now actually getting them most of the games that are released for the xbox but look at the downfall.....development is harder for the Cell so devs usually either delay the ps3 port of their game, do a *****ty port job and are usually disgruntled while developing for it.
On top of that, when devs now release small scale games with mediocre graphics, they don't even bother to make it for the ps3. They either go ps2 or just skip sony altogether.
This is no one's fault but Sony's.
no, seriously it used to play DVDs quite well ... until it Rroded, now I only have a PS3 which was a little more expensive but since it has built-in Wifi and I don't have to pay for online gaming, it is a lot more profitable.
Srsly devs who prefer one console over another are bad devs, because I can only imagine that a developper who likes his job is searching for challenges and doesn't copy&paste code for every game he is working for ...
we have a person here, who understands Japanese buisness better than anyone in the world. SONY SHOULD HIRE YOU (NOT!)
Let's read your work....
"On top of that, when devs now release small scale games with mediocre graphics, they don't even bother to make it for the ps3. They either go ps2 or just skip sony altogether."
Sony stated that from now on it's more about the QUALITY of the game that will represent it's baby .Think about what you said "mediocre) graphics", that's not even a challange for the PS3, chances of said game being good are reduced by allot. By that I mean that Microsoft can buy all they want but it will never strenghen their first party line up . That's where Sony has them by the balls . I mean what real "gamer", would spend $400 on a system and buy Madagascar2 for the PS3 ? Square has dissapointed me with the crap they are coming out with so it doesn't hurt if Sony reserves it's nutz for true working devs like INSOMNIAC, MEDIA MOLECUE,POLYPHO NY DIGITAL, INCOGNITO, NAUGHTY DOG, SCE LONDON and many more.
i feel that its all about the dev. everyone wants an easy enviroment which its understandable however its people never learn to progress and only know how to get stuck on one ground. games can never achieve a higher quality than they are now. lets put it this way, kojima done an impressive job pulling off mgs4 the way it is on ps3. i dont see why other dev cant follow. so it all comes back to the dev itself. if we think back during the past, ps2 was a hard platform to dev too, but look at how much great games that has been made at the end of the day. there might be quite a bit of dev out there claiming the amount of difficulties they had during developement on ps3. but when you look at those successful games, it really doesnt justify with those things they are saying. unless to date there is nothing on ps3 that is impressive then i would agree. but thats not the case where there are actually quite a bit of really great looking titles out there.
I'm not even going to bother reading those behemoth posts.
But from what I read, he said it was easy to dev on and thus it was a nice breeze through game. Didn't say the LOVED the machine, merely that it was easy to work with.
Yup, they also didn't say anything about the PS3. They only commented on the 360. So how the hell the PS3 came into it is beyond me.
Title Change! Too Funny....
